Since I'm new to this forum, I'm making my way from the last page on up for interesting topics and so far I haven't seen this question asked. How many megs could an AES game actually have if totally maxed out? Is there even a definitive answer? The most was... 716 or so? Would 1024(a gigabit) within the realm of possibility if games were still being made? Have I used enough question marks yet?

Yep the biggest meg count was 716 megs. It was KOF 2003 iirc.

EDIT: I guess a gigabit was possible, but no one ever wanted to produce a game with that big of a meg count. Too expensive for the rom chips. All the later big games were capped off at 708 Megs except for KOF2003.

Hypothetically it could go as high as you want it to. It would just depend on how much room was in the cart for more memory. Good question.

BTW - I'm not sure if this is right, but it sounds good to me.:p

It depends on how many bits are allocated for bank switching, and how large each bank is to begin with. With enough custom hardware, you could theoretically do any size you wanted.

Yes, you could pretty much go as high as you'd like, however at some point you may need more power for the cart. ;)

Thanks, I was always wondering how high they could have gone. If only they could have done one more Metal Slug or KOF and just hit 1000. Not like I could afford it anyways :envy:
