I want to buy my first candy cab but I am not sure which cab will be the best for me. I am very familiar with American arcade cabinets but I really like the monitors in Japanese sit down cabs and want a cab that is really easy to swap out boards. I do not own any vertical shumps but I really want to buy Ikaruga for my naomi setup one day. So far I have narrowed my search to three styles of Candy cabs that I like: Sega New Astro City, Namco Cyberlead and Super Neo 29. I would like to use this cab mainly for my naomi setup or maybe CPS2/3. Which will give me easy access to the motherboards for me to swap out carts? Any pros or cons to any of these cabs?

Sega New Astro City :buttrock:

Okay, now why should I get a New Astro City??

My only concern is JVS wire setup on the Namco Cyberlead. Still doing more reading on this setup.

You can't rotate the monitor on the cyberlead. I also recommend the New Astro City.

get the new astrocity. They rock. Good price. Good looks. Easy to rotate. Adjustment controls are easy and convenient to use. Great picture. I own a few cabs and the new sega astrocity is still one of my favorites.

My favorite cabinets are Sega Astro, Konami Windy and Taito Egret 2

Any of those cabs are the way to go and a EGRET 2 Especially

You can rotate with 1 hand

I'd recommend the Cyberlead over any of them. Unless rotating the monitor is going to be a bitch, that's the only one out of the lot that's got a high res monitor with a JVS harness for Naomi titles. Otherwise, I'd go for the astro.

If you have the money, i'd go for the Taito cabinets. They are just too good to be true  :crying:

I'd very much suggest an Astro City cabinet for 2d stuff hands down. If your looking for other cabinets, be sure to check out my site for the most popular imported models out there.

From my understanding, the monitor on the Cyberlead cannot be rotated. Too bad too because I would love to install my naomi in it.

I really dig your website, BTW;)

I think I will be going with the New Astro City cab because it looks fairly easy to rotate the screen if I want to play some vertical shmups. It seems Matsu will be receiving a big shipment of cabs this weekend. I planned on moving my Naomi into the candy cab and shuffle the rest of my arcade boards around to my other cabs. I just want to make sure about one thing. The New Astro cab has a dual resolution monitor correct? I can set my Naomi to a higher resolution to medium res with this cab? It is a big pain to swap boards or GD roms if I have my Naomi setup/bolted onto a piece of wood. Will I have enogh room to slide (in and out) my naomi setup, for easy access?

D'oh! Lame.

And yes, the astros do come with a 15/24hz monitor.

No, the Naomi will not work at med res.

Bummer. The only reason I was buying another cab was to have a nice setup just for the Naomi. Now I need to reconsider the New Astro City vs the Cyberlead, again.

Hey Dino,

Are you planning on roadtripping to pick one of these up? I'd be willing to snag one of these as well, and if you're going, I'd love to come along as well...

(It really sucks only having a motorcycle to drive around at times.)

Get a new Astro, and a high res monitor. The monitor on it's probably going to be old anyway...

Nope , I'm ordering one through Matsu and using my company's shipping account, saving me a LOT of money.
