I just acquired a US MVS-4 cabinet a few weeks ago, I had to do some minor repairs, replaced the buttons, etc. It has 4 data east games in it that are pretty decent, but I have some personal favorites I'd like to pop in there. (Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown, etc) Nothing brand new, but before I plopped down the money for other cartridges I wanted to know if they were all compatible in this cabinet. By that I mean, can I take any US MVS cartridge (or UK/JP?) and plug it in and play? Or are BIOS/hardware changes needed for some? Do you need more information to make that call? If so I can provide it.

Also, the cabinet is in great condition, but the picture on the monitor is very pink. I see this from time to time on old arcade cabinets, is this a monitor problem or a MB problem? How hard of a fix is it? It's still playable like this, but I would like it to be perfect.

Finally, I was looking at ebay for some of the cartridges I planned to buy, am I pretty safe picking up MVS's from ebay? Or is it better to pick them up from other websites? I'm not familiar with the bootleg/scam situation in regards to this stuff so I thought it would be wise to ask first.

Thanks for any replies.

Not my expertise maybe a cap kit. Search the tech forum and you should find some answerers.

There are plenty of legit sellers on Ebay you just have to be very careful.
Stick to the neo board and you'll be fine.

1. Generally speaking, any MVS game plays on any MVS board.
2. Might be one of the guns gone on the tube ( I have a couple monitors like that :( ). But you might be lucky if it's the board.
3. Yeah, there are a bunch of boots on eBay, but I have been out of it for a while, don't who deals what anymore. :(

BTW, one of the best upgrades for the MVS is the Universe BIOS chip... ;) Search this forum for the link... ;)

It's likely the flyback on the monitor; the green isn't firing properly, and you're only getting red and blue when it goes pink (actually magenta).

try adjusting the nobs on the back of the monitor. I did that with the cab I just bought and it really helped alot. I still need new caps though to brighten up the picture. be careful not to touch the tubes, it can be dangerous. hope your cab turns out good. hope my cab turns out good too, which it will.
