IV for me, but III's not bad. Prefer II, and IV over III any day though.

There is no way I could honestly say IV is better than III. I have some fond memories of SSIII, granted not as many as SSII or SSI.

Seriously, how often did SNK completely redo the graphics and game engine for their sequels? How many times have you heard someone say something like, "I wish they would redo all the sprites in the next KOF game even if they had to cut down the roster." This is essentially what SNK did with SSIII in 1996. They also did this with KOF96, but thats annother story.

At the time of its release, these graphics were simply amazing. The only game I felt even came close was Xmen Streetfigher, which had big sprites, and lots of special effects, but didn't have the cool Samurai atmosphere that made 3 one of my favorite Neo Geo Games of all time.

SSIV is cool, I like the character roster, but its mostly made out of Pallet swaps from SSIII. SSIII had a much better atmosphere and was nicer to look at. Except of the selection screen.

I feel Samurai Shodown went a little like this
2>3>1>4

I won't comment on V, Vspecial, 64, or 64II cause I haven't really played them. I doubt any of them are better than SSIII though.

That's because you don't know how to play your games yet and you need a new eyeglass prescription. Those stupid 14-hit combos suck all the Samurai Shodown out of SS4. If I wanted that, I'd have been playing Guitly Gear in the first place. I'd rather play 3, 2 or 5 than 4.

And thank you for creating yet another 3 vs. 4 thread. You might have won something for creating the thousandth one. PM Shawn and ask.

Samurai Spirits 3

It looks better, has better music and plays better than any other game in the series. It's when the series really changed.

Some people may dislike the infinites/bugs, but I believe that those things only make the game much more tight, create more tension and ultimately give you a system with extreme punishments/rewards.

As much as I love the Kazama brothers, SS3 gets my vote.

Samurai Shodown 3 started the two styles (Slash & Bust). But 4 started the combo system. I played 3 alot more in the arcades than any other version and its alright but very messed up for one reason Removing Good Characters. Damn I hate the people who took out Gen-An and all the other classic ones. I played for the first time just 2 months ago and the game is kick ass. I also like SS64 I actually gave it a good try, cant wait to get Warriors Rage.

other than you and soulthug, I don't recognize the other people who voted for SSIV

and as far as I can tell, between you and Soul Thug, you're the only one who knows how to play.

I love both of them for very different reasons. :emb:

However the truth of the matter is, if you don't love SSII, you're an infidel.

because soulthug was born in the wrong era. SSIV competition in the arcades hasn't existed in 8 years.
