Is the Sega STV system worth it?

I have been considering getting a Sega STV system and a couple of games, but I actually have zero experience with it -never played any STV on the arcades back in the day. I can get a pretty good deal from a Spanish arcade op, but again I couldn't find any reviews online.

Any feedback, guys?

Why buy an ST-V system? A Saturn is just a consolized ST-V system and can be had for a small pittence.

I recently picked one up, and am really pleased with it so far. I've got Cotten 2 and Terra Diver already and those alone are worth it. I also picked up a number of the cheaper titles (Taisen Columns, VF Remix, VF Kids, etc) and so far most have been pretty enjoyable especially considering they can be had fairly cheap.

I haven't seen the 2D fighters yet (Astra Superstars, Groove on Fight) but would like to get some impressions on those as I'm definately looking at getting them.

You can get an ST-V w/ Radiant Silvergun for about the same price as the Saturn port alone.

But anywho, I'm pretty happy with mine. I've got RS & Terra Diver and there's a few other games that look decent. Just make sure you buy a Japanese board.. US ones are little supported & RS uses a dumbed down control scheme.

Radiant Silvergun, Groove on Fight, VF Remix, Astra Superstars, Dynamite Deka (Die Hard Arcade), Golden Axe: The Duel... do I need to say more? They're all kickass titles.

Yes, it is a system worth buying!

Just stay away from the crazy mahjong games and Final Fight Revenge (Yuuuuuck).

Having owned one for a short while, I was very unhappy with it. I guess I'm just underwhelmed by the system's capabilities. This is arcade hardware that is bested by playstation 1. I was let down with VF remix. That's just me, I do like Die Hard arcade, however. Horrible graphics and all. :)

Totally not worth it, all the games can be had on the saturn.

Hmmm...I have a modded saturn in need of games (got the system years ago and never got any games for it), but the Radiant Silvergun argument is quite a good one. I can get both the motherboard and RS for around 130$.

Dunno...

Why buy an ST-V setup when many of (if not all) its games are perfectly ported to the Saturn? If that were not the case then sure--lots of top-notch games for it.

But if you're dumping on the ST-V because of Virtua Fighter Remix, you're just playing the wrong games. Why would anyone buy Virtua Fighter Remix ahead of Astra Superstars...

a PSX can outperform the ST-V in *3D* games.

Why buy it instead of playing on a saturn? The ST-V versions are in most cases superior than the Saturn ports. ST-V has more RAM, it's that simple.

Also - if the guy's pondering on buying the ST-V, that means he wants to play games on his _ARCADE_ CAB, not on his TV ;-)

*waits patiently for someone to retort saying you can plug a Saturn into a Jamma cab with an adapter and yadda yadda yadda*

True. This system and game came with an arcade machine I bought and have changed out almost 100% of the stuff in it since. Limited experience I have with the system, but not very impressive never the less.

Astra Superstars rules in a major way. Its expensive on ST-V tho.
