May 1, 2006 - One of the best games released on the classic NeoGeo Pocket Color handheld system of a half-decade ago is about to be revived for a new generation of portable gamers - SNK Playmore is about ready to unleash SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS for the dual screen Nintendo handheld system, and the company's given us a first look at the game before its debut at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo next week.

Like the original game released on the NeoGeo Pocket Color, SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS is a card battling game featuring characters from both company's universes. Players do battle with decks of cards that have familiar folk like Street Fighter's Guile, Chun Li, Ken, Ryu, and others, as well as fighters from SNK games such as Samurai Shodown, King of Fighters, and Fatal Fury.

The Nintendo DS version of the game will feature touch-screen control to make it easy to select and sort earned cards and battle with opponents, as well as maneuver through the game's competition structure. Expect the Nintendo DS system's wireless capabilities to come into play to enable multiple players to trade and compete against each other.

Hit the media link below to check out the first screenshots of SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS. We'll have more on the game as we get closer to next week's big show.

Hope this hasn't been posted in another area.

This is joyous news! But it says Dec. release in JP! That means it will be well into 2007 before we can play the US version.

I just had one of those OMFG moments! First I saw the news about Metal Slug and the Revolution this morning, but just found out about CFC. I'm still in shock. :eek_2:

It will be a sin if this game didn't come with WFC support. C'mon SNK, I know you're reading this thread.

Looks like this CFC will also employ a new game mechanic, I read something about activation cost White/Red on one of those screenshots.

I've never seen such enthusiasm for a new Playmore game on this forum like this...

The NGPC games must have been great....

Could someone briefly explain the gameplay for me?

Hmm anyone got a review handy?

It's a card based game, much in the same way as YuGiOh, and "real" CCGs such as Magic and Pokemon, just involving cards with your favourite Capcom and SNK characters.

All the traditional hallmarks of a CCG are followed: set deck size, turns of play, cards being rarer than other etc. You put characters down on the table (up to a max of 3 at any one time), they fight each other, the character with the higher power wins but loses power equal to the strength of the defeated.

Some characters have special text that can be invoked to turn the tide. Characters can double or triple team up in one big strike. There are cards that can be played at any time to "interupt" and change things.

So pretty much simple rules to learn, very hard to master. The previous games had 300 different cards (no limit on how many of each you could have in a deck), wonder how many this time?

This needed to be said by someone. Now that it has, I have a few other thoughts on the matter...

Despite opinions to the contrary, I actually like the Blue Mary portrait. Cards are the bread and butter of this game, and there’s no way they’re not going to look fantastic. CFC2 was the last forgivable lapse in this department. My only concern is the in-game characters. I mean, I enjoy anime as much as the next guy, but the character designs featured so far reek of pokemon-flavored faggotry. Maybe this isn’t a big deal to anyone else; Hell, maybe I won’t even care once I start playing it. I don’t care that they’re kids and they fucking love playing card games, but Jesus Fuck do they all have to look like they just stumbled out of Cirque du Soleil?

[/rant]

Yeah, but even with all that I am utterly convinced this game will own. Hard.

This is excellent news, being as this game is one of the main reasons I bought a DS...

I've never played CFC2, admittedly, but the first game had a maximum of 3 of the same cards in a deck.

Well, the screenshots from the first two games are hardly exciting either. :p

I hope they do something to make the AI more challenging. The computer is so damn predictable in CFC1 (the only one I've played).

Well I guess that's why there's WFC (they just gotta do it!).

I'll end up getting this anyway, but I'd much rather have a new Match Of The Millenium for DS.

Well it has been confirmed!!!!!!!!!!!

Wifi on the cardfighters clash!

Not only that, but some huge announcements were made.Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii and SNK vs Capcom Card Fighters DS will both use the Nintendo WiFi Connection! Online Metal Slug and SvC Card Fighters! The PSP and Wii versions of Metal Slug Anthology will be identical with changes in the bonus material. Another huge difference will be the control scheme. The Wii version will allow you to use the controller features while the PSP version obviously won't. Whether or not the PSP version will be online was not discussed. The anthology will not feature Metal Slug 6 because it only hit arcades this past February. The Wii version has been in development for three months now.
