Gitaroo-Man hitting the road
The original guitar hero makes an encore; new installment in rhythm game series set to arrive on Japanese PSPs next month.

A product posting on Sony's Japanese PlayStation site today announced a second installment in Koei's cult-hit rhythm game franchise, Gitaroo-Man.

Gitaroo-Man Live! for the PlayStation Portable is the follow-up to Gitaroo-Man, which was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2002 (2001 in Japan). Expect demos of this game to be in high demand at this year's E3; the original won positive reviews in both the US and Japan, though a very limited US release helped make the game something of a collector's item.

Though the Gitaroo-Man Live! product page is light on detail, it does reveal a few new features for the upcoming PSP game. It allows ad hoc network play (though, unfortunately, does not appear to be online compatible), and players can either compete head-to-head or cooperative in the new Duet mode. The game balance has been tweaked for the PSP version, and the game's music and vocals will be provided by well-known Japanese pop stars.

When the game launches in Japan on May 25, it will retail for 5,040 yen ($42.50). Koei has not yet made any announcements on a US release.
I think I'm going to have to buy another PSP! :buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

Update:

I've been playing this game for a few days now,and I must say that it is a very enjoyable experience. I totally dig the artstyle and overall concept of the game. The music tracks are quirky and fun, also.

Since I have never played the PS2 version,I won't be able to distinguish any of the differences between the two versions (for those of you who'd like to know),other than the inclusion of the 'duets' mode, which I have not had a chance to try out just yet.

On the downside, the loadtimes are noticeably longer than usual (about 15-20 sec. per stage). Not that big of a deal, though.

If you're a fan of quirky music games,be sure to check out Gitaroo-Man Live!

This game is friggin' tough.

Admittedly, the last boss almost made me throw my PSP through my window a couple of times :kekeke:

Oh yeah, and the game is pretty much a carbon-copy of the PS2 original.

Is that all the PSP is getting is shovelware.

Mega Man, Virtual Tennis, Powerstone Collection, Gitaroo Man, where are the original games? :crying:

For the dozens of games that are out for this system, all we have for original games are Exit, Toykobot, Hot PXL, and Loco Roco.

All the original songs are on this version?

If thats so then I can't see you having any more trouble on the last song than there is to be had with the San Bone Trio level. :kekeke:

Just played this yesterday, and it's excellent! Better than Ouendan IMO. You feel like you're actually playing along with the music here, as opposed to just keeping time with it. And it looks so good too!

If it is a PS2 port I wouldn't know, because I never played a GM game before. So me at least, it's a totally new experience.
