ok so i show up to kinko's to print out the inserts for the few games i have on my mvs (thanks alot big bear for the boxes , awesome!) I have them sized and everything and the manager tells me "sorry can't do it, these images are copyrighted. For example if you were to draw a Superman on your own, we wouldn't be able to print it out beacause its a known character blah blah..." WTF MAN, has anything like this happened to anyone??? :blow_top:

What's a substitute for kinkos?? right now im going to go to another one and try again.

Happens all the time with Kinko's, in my experience. Either try a different shift, a different branch, or a different copy shop company entirely. You might also try explaining that you're not mass-producing these: you're only making one of each to replace the originals.

That's actually the way copyright works. All images, text (computer programs are considered text), and sound cannot be duplicated. There's more but I don't want to list them.

Dude, this exact same thing happened to me when I went to Kinkos to get a custom CPO printed out of the KOF perfect reader cover. they told me the same thing about Copywrite bullshit. I went to a Kinkos the next town over and told them I was a comic artist and I drew it myself, thats all you gotta do man. She said oh you go to art school, I want to go to art school sooo bad. I said "hell yeah I go to art school bitch now print my latest masterpiece out 24X10 glossy inside vinyl." Unfortunately I cut it to small cause I'm a dummy so its just a poster on my wall now. I used some Christmas Paper for my CPO, check my sig out. LOL

While that is true, Kinkos bears no legal Responsibilty or liability if you go in and use thier machines to copy stuff. If you give them the files and ask them to do it, then they are responsible. But if you walk in and do it all yourself, they have a real "Plausable Deniability".

Well, I've heard both ways on printing stuff at Kinkos. Some can and some can't. I think it depends if you know someone that works there and they know what you're wanting printed and how you are going to use it. Of course, being in San Diego, there are lots of printing places that you can use besides Kinkos though not all are as cheap (One place around here was wanting to charge me $20 for one MM)

If you get fed up with Kinkos, try Staples next. I've had no problem printing Mini Marquees copies and other stuff there. But remember that they charge a downloading fee of about $5.

kinkos will do it if you lie to them. when they ask you if its copywrited say, "No I haven't copywrited it yet so don't steal my idea."

With Kinko's it's all in how you approach the situation. Some clerks just want to give you a hard time because it makes them happy.
Staples will give you no problem and this service CLICK HERE is PERFECT.
You will still need to cut them down with a board or they may do it for you,I'm not sure so ask.

Strange, I've made a few AES inserts for myself, and I've never had any trouble at Kinko's. I just give them a Zip disk and tell them what size it's supposed to be.

... of course, I usually wind up going there during the middle of the night, as that's when I usually finish working on things and I get too impatient to wait until morning to print it. Maybe the employees that work at that time are too tired to care?

Umm doesnt the copyright only apply if the company who owns the rights still makes money on them? If not I think it is open season. As since it is just free promotion to be had. The mvs is official gone. Which would make it legal would it not? I could be wrong on this.

Actually no. I've looked into this subject since I am a musician, and copyright holders own the work and get to delegate how many copies of the work are to be made. They own that right for, I believe, 75 years if my memory serves me correctly. SNK chose to make only a few copies of AES titles, and that is their right. It, technically, is not open season and, technically, they can file civil and criminal charges against you depending on how many copies you made and what the originals are worth.

Kinko's

Kinko's Store #1:
With my first batch of 50 MVS inserts that I printed, I had no problems.
Kinko's printed them, cut them, and had them ready in 24 hours.

Kinko's Store #2:
It's when I went to a different Kinko's where I started having problems...
They wouldn't print anything... after about 20 minutes of me being pissed off,
the manager finally gave me a copyright form that I had to sign...
basically saying that the design was mine. (I was there around 6:00pm)
I signed it, and then the manager printed them.
(This was for my Atomiswave Inserts that I designed)

I went back to the same Kinko's (the one with the problem manager),
to print some more MVS inserts a few weeks later. This time early in the morning.
The manager wasn't there, and the staff printed and cut them with no problem.

Basically, try a different shift!! and make sure that the manager isn't there.
or, ask to sign a copyright form, if you designed them.

I have about 8 Kinko's within about 1/2 hour drive of me...
Try another Kinko's if you can.

That wouldn't make it Legal,

But it would be a factor if you were trying to argue for fair use.

I've always went to a 24hr. Kinkos in the middle of the night.

If there's one thing in life you can count on, it's graveyard shift employees not giving a shit.

LONGER, Grwaaaahhh!!!! (otherwise correct)

With kinkos you got to remember to things:
(1) they were sued a long time ago for a boat-load of money due to allowing CP infringement by their employees, (2) they don't care if you are able to do it yourself using their printers/copiers and without making a big deal out of it (i.e. "Hey, watch my copy this copyrighted material despite all the written warnings they've put everywhere!")

Yep, that's how it goes...

I've seen people take a stack of CD's/DVD's out at the library and sit in the corner with thier laptop. ONly to return them 3 hours later....

As long as it wasn't PAINFULLY OBVIOUS that they were buring them, the Library bore no real responsibility.

It's no different than blamming the Post office if I use thier $00.25 Coppier to copy the new harry potter book.

If you can wait just a little bit longer, all your problems will be solved...

Save your pennies and don't buy inserts. Just wait a little longer. It will be worth it.
