Found this bit a little while ago...

According to 1UP.com, it looks like Portrait of Ruin will be set during World War II, and the heroes, Johnathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean, must make sure that a pair of vampire sisters can't restore Dracula's castle, Castlevania, and release the dark lord from his imprisonment.

Yes, we need some screenshots to drool over soon.

Got an email with mention of Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin on the latest Nintendo Power cover. I hope to catch a glimpse of the preview when I go to the videogame stores.

Is this Jonathan Morris the same as the John Morris in Bloodlines?

I certainly hope so.

It looks pretty good, just like Dawn of Sorrow, I guess.

It's good to see a whip again but it's too bad that they retained the anime stuff from the previous one.

Interesting, it looks like either a tag-based game, or kinda like the RPGs that allow companions to tag along for support.

AMEN. I'm so sick of the anime look for Castlevania. It's not that I hate anime. It's not that I think an anime look doesn't fit some games well. It's just that nothing can suck all the gothinc, mysterious atmosphere out of a game quicker than slapping a cute Pokemon slick anime look onto it. Fuck.

Screens look cool, though. And I cosign BIG's hope that this is a sequel or somehow related to the Genesis game.

You'll have to blame everyone's hard on for anything anime these days for Castlevania's new look. I also agree it doesn't fit the atmosphere at all. The art style from before, particularly from dracula x all the way down to harmony of dissonance, that fits hell of a lot better.

This game looks good, but when the fuck are we going to see a big compilation of castlevania games on any system? :crying:

Word on the street is that it may be level based and the ability to switch on the fly between the 2 characters will be present.

No more drawing of seals or other lame uses of the DSs abilities please!

The last thing i want is to have to use the mic or touch screen in a castlevania game. I don't like the "forced" use of the touchscreen, that aside from drawing seals was worthless.

Oh SHIT!!!!

I think its time to start drolling now...

Thank goodness for the Whip returning in the main adventure.

In Dawn of Sorrow it seemed I enjoyed Belmont's adventure using a whip a lot more than Soma's(which I didnt really enjoy that much, and just started playing when my cousin finished the game unlocking Simon with the whip!).

I felt if you get sword type weapons, they should have more frames for attacks than just a boring heavy swing for all the weapons.

I don't feel that way at all with a whip although more attack types using the whip would be awesome.

And the switching of characters on the fly in Belmont's adventure was great as well, and glad to see this might be implemented here.

And yes, this anime look is downgrading to the series's true feel and look. But we can't be too picky these days when it comes to authentic hand -drawn 2D graphics.

OHHHH I hope so. Man they need to make another straight forward Castlevania right now. (Or keep the Konami PS1 rehashes coming... SotN PSP Please!!!!!!)

Screens look cool. I agree anime look is lame. It's the whole reason I haven't bought dawn of sorrow yet. I think I'll have to get it though.

Go ahead and get it man.

It should be relatively cheaper now, and once you beat the game with Soma, the game turns into a real straight forward Castlevania game (in Simon Belmont mode) without all the bullshit of keeping track of this and that soul and soul searching, merging, blah blah blah, along with a whip and also ability to switch to Alucard from SOTN on the fly!

They need to make a real Castlevania and dump this mage metro sexual bullshit. Castlevania about beating the fuck out of monsters with a whip and hitting them in the head with axes, not this spell bullshit.
I said it once, and I will say it again.

I think the biggest problem with the anime look in the recent Castlevanias is that it's just simplified ugly manga.

If it was Hellsing-style (which fits the mood AND the theme) it would look a lot better, believe me. But instead we have this crap american-manga look, which always looks bad, no matter how approach it.

At least DoS is a great game (aside from the drawing seals, we all agree that that is crap).

Did someone say Anime and Castlevania in the same sentence?

WTF Konami... you aren't supposed to Animize (sp) Castlevania artwork. It is supposed to look morbid, depressing, and hopeless. Its kinda why I like the art style of CotM especially; dark.

Something true needs to be done with the Castlevania franchise, something to bring it back to its roots. And it needs to be 'enchanted' with Satanic-like overtones while still holding true with vampires of course.

But all in all I'm still pleased to see another 2D CV. (Waits for DSLite Domestic release)
