I was looking over on the EB website and I see Outrun 2006 is coming to the PSP. I can't think of a cooler game to be able to play on the go.

However, I don't know if it is really worth getting a PSP.

I already have a DS.

The only thing that makes me unsure about a PSP is the price...there are quite a few games that have caught my eye. But I guess I'm not interested in buying this if it looks like the future of it is doom and gloom.

Also are there any price drops in the future for this?

Is the 32MB memory card adequate if my only intention is to play games on this?

Somehow Outrun doesn't seem like a game I'd want to play on the go.
Especially on a car trip.

Look down, see cars moving at high speed. Look up, see cars moving at high speed.

Other than the BGM, I just don't understand the purchace. But that's just me.

If you really want the game, don't let my opinion stop you.

Up until a few months ago, the PSP really didn't have much in the way of games, but since March, its started looking pretty promising. A lot of good games were released recently to supplement the few good earlier releases. Overall the PSP is a nice system. If you're thinking of getting one and you have the money to get a few games for it, I'd say go ahead.

If you are concerned about the system dying, look at it this way; if fewer people buy a PSP, it will die sooner. If more people buy it, it will last longer. Therefore, if you purchase a PSP, the chance of it lasting longer increases. :mr_t:

They recently just released a 'budget' PSP system pack for $200, but I'm not sure what all is included in it. Other than that, you probably wont see it getting cheaper any time soon.

It is my understanding that the 32MB memory stick will be all you need for a long time if you just plan to use it for game saves.

I'm in the same boat as you 2 weeks ago.

But now I can say, grab it! It's worth it.

I'm enjoying Exit, Naruto, and DBZ Budokai right now. Next up will be Outrun and Initial D.

I enjoyed Untold Legends, and its starting to get cheaper now, since it was a launch title.

You can play Initial D on a US PSP? :conf:

GET.....D.

It's awsome, almost a perfect arcade port with extras. They got rid of Akina Snow..which I was mad about..but it's an overall great game for fans.

PS. Ray_7..Not sure if you got my PM, but you think you can get the Sidekick out tomorrow? I'd like it for the weekend. Thanks. Tim

It's region free remember? :)

Whoa.

Didn't know that. :)

Another question, how is the build quality on the systems now?

Any issues with dead pixels or anything else?

It's an anime..where they race and whatnot.. but they have the arcade game which is sweet. It's pretty much a racing game with all Jap cars..and the tracks have rediculous turns and you can drift and such. You earn upgrades on cars, such as body kits, exhausts, turbos, hoods, rims, wings, stuff like that. It's awsome.

I haven't heard of any issues lately, but they might still be there.

If you're feeling paranoid about it, you could always buy some sort of warranty for it or make sure that whoever you bought it from allows returns and exchanges.

A 32MB stick might be enough for a couple of games, but don't be surprised if you end up buying one of larger capacity a few weeks down the road. The Wipeout Pure packs range from 7MB to 15MB each and there are like 20 of them.

You may also want a larger memory stick for movie or mp3 playback.

You can find a 2GB in the $100 area these days and that's not too bad.

i have one as well, and its so incredibly versatile that i just leave it as paper weight. jk but tbh its not all that its cracked up to be. It does however have some insane games though, weird ones too. Emulation is insane too.

Is there any credibility to the rumours about a redesigned/re-engineered PSP on the cards from SONY?

What does EB or Best Buy offer in terms of warranties, and how much money do they cost?

To tell the truth, I have no idea.

I think I read somewhere that Best Buy will take anything and everything back without the need for warranties, but don't take my word for it.

The best you could do is go and ask.

Its one of the main reasons I'm holding out. Quite a few rumors have popped up, the newer ones suggesting even a high quality touch sensitive screen (for net purposes etc).

I just don't want to be one of those ppl who bought a DS and a few days later DS-Lite got introduced.

The $200 PSP is a great deal, the 32 MB card is pretty useless. For me, emulation and movie ripping were a significant selling point of this system... The native games just aren't as good as DS games. Depends on home much you like racing games, the PSP has a few of those. Gradius Portable rocks. Also, Ghouls n' Ghosts is coming soon. But I've playing alot of Dragon Warrior 4 on my PSP lately...

The PSP looks better than it did a year ago, but if all you're going to use it for is to play games you're going to be disappointed.

That said, if you're serious about buying one I'd recommend:
Mega Man Powered Up
Lumines
Daxter
Pursuit Force
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror
Ridge Racers

...and Gran Turismo assuming it ever comes out.

I'd like to get one too..eventually. Once more games that appeal to me are released and the price comes down a tad. I've also heard that many of the big retail chains are no longer going be carrying the umd movies, I'm not really that suprised.

if you're buying one used from eb, I would make sure that it has little to no dead pixels before buying. That's what my friend did before buying one.

That's what happened to me. :(

Like a month after I bought a DS, they announced the new one, and every store started giving you a free game with the system. :(

At least mine came with the Metroid Demo...
