Did anyone else have to lower the difficulty in D?

I don't remember a difficulty level in D or flying, but it has been many years since I played it.

I just started playing it, and I've been surprised by how hard the opponents can be. One review said not to think you'll be able to win without learning some of the more advanced moves, and I can see why. Being unfamiliar with the arcade version, what the heck are those moves?
But as far as the difficulty goes, the AI drivers are pretty strange in their behaviors, in my experience. One guy will lag badly behind you on the first lap, speed up a BUNCH and take the lead on the second lap, and then slow back down on the third lap. Seems kind of odd.
Another thing about the difficulty: if you keep pulling the wrong card (and you don't get many mods in turn), are you pretty much screwed?

No not really, the card choosing is all random, and you can always get it back in another race. I always miss out on the engine and exhaust upgrades, and also the front and back body kit. It sucks, but you just got to keep racing over and over to get the right parts you need. As for the A.I., they can be a bitch. They always suck in the beginning but then they somehow get right behind you, and pass you in a turn, it's really frustrating. For a couple of guys, I had to go into the menu and set the difficulty to Easy..and it was a breeze. I noticed you don;t get any upgrade cards when it;s on easy though, which sucks, you only get charecter cards. Well...good luck, it's quite difficult but you'll get the hang of it and drift drift drift!jro said:
