Hell yeah it is...

So does it only apply to Progear or any other CPS2 games?

Almost every great high-score based Arcade games fuck you like this. Pretty annoying that most these games have an internal battery to save configuration data. The manuacturers must have been too busy with gay sex to notice that they excluded an essential feature to the modern arcade PCB.

it's really unfortunate that Capcom refused to implement high-score saving on any of their games. They obviously had the capability to do so on CPS2, since all the game settings are stored through NVRAM. Even when they moved to NAOMI hardware for CvS1 and 2, MvC2, etc., high scores still got reset on power off. Lame.

Look at Street Fighter Alpha 3 for instance - the game keeps a total of the highest score for all 28 (I think? don't remember the exact number after time-release) characters, split up into the X, A, and V-isms so there's three times as many scores, and keeps track of longest winning streaks in the same manner. 28 * 6 = 168 different high scores that the game will track... AND NONE OF THEM ARE SAVED. Why did they even bother? :oh_no:

Actually Caves new hardware does allow you to save game scores. This is available for Mushihimesama, Ibara, Espgaluda II and more than likely the forthcoming Ibara Pink Sweets.

Wonder if Raz can implement a high score save system on cps2? The system settings are saved in flash ram arent they?

Yeah, but the Pheonix chips are always there to lean on when Capcom's intentional suicide battery decides that it doesn't like you anymore. Thanks Capcom :blow_top: , and an honest thanks to our Buddy Razoola for allowing us to enjoy our games for as long as we wish to. :buttrock:

That's fabulous! But we're both in the US and arcades here don't give enough of a shit to sticky a piece of paper to the cabinet, and if somebody else put one up it'd get ripped off anyway.

You can write whatever the hell you want on a piece of paper, but it's more fun seeing the game display your score/initials itself. Why bother having elaborate high score lists in something like SFA3 if they don't last after power off?

i dont know, but i doubt it, i can tell you the two biggest here in sweden (liseberg and gröna lund) get shut off every night at closing time.

were talking a rather costly powerdrain to have +100 cabs running all night with no-one there to feed coins into them... :spock:

Of course US arcades are trash. The thing is, no one in the USA is going to care about high scores to begin with, except on dedicated forums (shmups for example). Especially a VS. game like SFA3.

It isn't such a mystery because the scores for the day are recorded and reported (if a record is broken) to someone like Arcadia or simply online.

I'm pretty sure Naomi does save em, only when you change the game do you loose your settings & high scores, I'll put my N2 back in my cab later & try it.

but the question is, why would Capcom bother going to such lengths to include so many scores in its high score list if it's not going to save any of them? Sure scores against the CPU are pointless, it's more fun to see long win streaks, even if that isn't always a true measure of player skill (just depends on how many people were playing at the time, and whether or not they were any good). And while most people don't give a shit about high scores, some do. If nothing else, it's fun to "leave your mark" on the game and then see if it's still there the next time you go. Really, what is the argument for not having high scores saved?

They save the game settings, but they don't save high scores, at least in Capcom's case. Capcom vs. SNK 1 and 2, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 definitely do not save high scores.

edit: I forgot about Spawn... was that a Naomi game? I believe it saves high scores but it's not really a true fighting game anyway.

Spawn is a Naomi game, not played it though, looks pants, VF4 saves the scores I think, it also has the % scores on how much each player has been used, I forgot my cabs in tate so have to be another day.

That's great, but please refer to my first post in the thread. I was talking about Capcom games on NAOMI, not all NAOMI games in general.

and yes, I know VF4 saves times/win streaks/character usage.

yes, it is a bit of a drag. i'm not great at progear by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a shame to lose your scores when you turn it off. it's funny what valgar mentioned, because i actually have a notepad with my high scores on. if anything, it encourages me to play the stuff i haven't invested much time into.

does anyone else do this...?

Is it a Capcom thing? Marvel vs Capcom 2 on Naomi doesn't either... and I know that Naomi games save info (all my VF info is saved, including win streaks and character usage). Hell, it's not that hard, if Tekken can do it, why can't CPS2? No matter, I guess. :(

EDIT: Jesus, I just made a post after reading the first few, and I see what I just talked about has been discussed already. D'oh.
