Nintendo USB Wi-Fi Connector woes

So... I hadn't taken my DS online for a month or two [jobs suck] and when I finally tried to do so the other day for Metroid Prime Hunters, it was as if my USB port(s), wouldn't read the damned thing.

No Firewalls on... no Virus Protection up... nothing on at all really.

So I did the "uninstall and reinstall" bit--got nothing.

So I did the "uninstall and reinstall with updated software found at Nintendo.com" bit--still nothing... well, I got something... this message:

http://host.jwcinc.net/641094/wifierror.JPG

The green light on the thing is blinking, so I would've assumed that would mean it was connected... but I guess that message says otherwise.

Figured that my new wireless mouse and wireless PC controller might have something to do with it, so I took those off and plugged in my wired stuff instead, and of course that didn't do shit either.

Even told Nintendo's tech-folk about the problem, and as to be expected from asking "The Experts", they were little-to-no help as well.

Aside from picking up a new connector, I'm running out of things to try here, so slip a few suggestions my way if you have anyway.

Thanks

You took it out of the usb port? when you uninstalled it?

If not take it out and leave it out for about 10-15 mins. My router does the same thing and I have to unplug it about once a week. Let the power seap out, cool down and give it another go. Otherwise phone nintendo and get them to send another one if you can. Also since it is usb you dont have to necessarily turn off your computer. As you should reboot everyonce in a while, im saying this because I know some people always leave there computer on.

Hmm, never ran into that issue before with mine. I did have to turn off my Trend Micro PC-Cillin firewall to get mine to work though. There is a newer version of the software, 1.03, might want to install that if you're using an older revision (http://www.nintendowifi.com/consumerservice/showTopic.do?topicId=ConHelp_Download_Drivers&catId=USB).

I haven't spent much time with the USB adapter, but from other IT experience it sounds like the software driver for the adapter is fubar. Try manually removing it from Device Manager (assuming it sees it there). If not there may be a registry key that needs to be removed, I've had to do that a few times in order to get USB devices to recognize again. Also, check your Task Manager and turn off any unneeded programs, some programs like Norton are notorious for running in the background even if you've shut down the service.

EDIT: Found this as well, not sure if you've tried it yet (http://www.nintendowifi.com/consume...ome_USB_Help&catId=USB#ConHelp_USB_uninstall). Apparently you're not the only one with this problem (http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo...ssage.id=14097&view=by_date_ascending&page=1).

I had not even searched those forums yet looking for an answer.

I was gone for the good part of the day and was planning on doing just that when I got back, but after reading those links, there's a couple of things I can look into to try and resolve this problem.

Thanks for that, you've saved me some time.

(I'll be trying this stuff out later on, hopefully it will do some good.)

Are you using AOL?

If so you have to have to do a little bit of trickery to get online with your DS.

He's been online before, and his setup doesn't appear to have changed as far as I can tell it just seems to have stopped working after a month of no use, I hate it when stuff like that happens..
