I was looking through peoples collections and noticed that the had cd systems along with the AES system. Why? If the load times are that bad why do people buy the system? Can someone also send me a video how exactly how long the load time can take because I am semi interested in a neo geo cd.

The good thing about the NGCD is the price of the games. You can get most of the games at a fairly low price, compare to the AES,atleast. Some of the games, though, can be quite expensive(Metal Slug1&2,Iron Clad,Breakers,Etc.).Also,the load times are pretty decent for the most part, with the exception of newer titles(almost anything after'95).There are also NGCD exclusive releases, such as Iron Clad and Samurai Shodown RPG.If you're thinking about picking one up,I'd say,go for it.

Most folks will bash the NEO CD into the ground. In actuality the NGCD is still a good system. Like B.I.GPSYCHE said, there are some games that were only released on the NGCD, the prices aren't nearly as steep, you get remixed music in some cases, and some of the games have extra features that their cart counterparts don't (IE: art gallries, extra modes and color edits).

Why does everyone make a big deal about the load times though? I mean they can't be that unbearable can they?

They run anywhere from $150-300,depending on condition and completeness.

I'd be interested in a video myself to see how long these load times really are.

Well, depending on the games you're playing, it's not too bad.

A lot of older games will load only once, other games will load once per level. The later fighting games are more painful.

If you want an idea on loading for some games, you can check out the game play videos I put up for SamShoRPG, NeoDriftout and Ironclad. (SamSho RPG and Ironclad are NeoCD only games.)

http://24.157.155.17/~stephane/

Note that the initial loads are not included in the videos. Think an addition 15-30 seconds for the initial load.

Also note that some of the later games will have options to allow you to speed up the loading. (For example: Last Blade allows you to have an alternative character select screens along with the option of removing the small "cinemas" between stages.)

With that said, I think if you want to play non-fighters, the NeoCD is a good system.

Nonsense. Don't come up with fairy tales like that. I've contributed some load times to www.neogeocd.com, and according to my measurements of LB2, it takes exactly 2.22 secs until the first fight starts. LB loads faster, in about 1.5 secs for the first fight to start.

I know you ppl have an aversion against load times, but making them longer as they are doesn't help shit.

Depends on the game for load times. I have had games that load lightning fast and some others that just took forever on my CDZ. Only reason I turned to AES is for the newer games on it that are not made in the CD version.

ok maybe it wasnt last blade and maybe it wasnt 6 minutes but i know it was 2.2 seconds...you have to load before the fight to see their intros' and then load to load the fight...i swear to you that from the time you turn the system on it takes 3 minutes to have a fight...at least

the cd is so bad that when I had one I couldn't even enjoy playing samurai showdown 2 on it. And that's fucking bad cause it's my favorite game of all time. There's something about loading time in between rounds that just kills it for me. I got rid of the cd about three months after I got it and never looked back. I only played the system two to three times when I owned it. And one of those days was right before I sold it! oh yeah... It's BAD!!!

it doesn't bother me, I play Sam Sho 2-4 on it.

I play Metal Slug 1-2 on it.

I play Art of fighting 3 on it. I play KOF 94-99 on it.....

And many more games.

Its not that bad.... I can live with the load time. It sometimes gives you time to think about what you are doing :)

Well, I posted a link to videos of some NeoCD games: http://24.157.155.17/~stephane/ . Missing the initial loads though, so tack in 15 to 30 seconds.

And, Takumaji linked to http://www.neogeocd.com/ which has a page with a bunch of load times on various games.

I would recommend the Neo Geo CD if you are trying to save money or want to purchase exclusive games that only came out on the Neo CD. However, if you want the arcade experience you must get an AES and all the new games come out on the AES not the CD. Of course, if you are looking to pay games like Metal Slug, the Neo Geo CD looks very attractive. You have to be halfway insane to pay $1000 or $2000 for Metal Slug on the AES.

If it's about the money, I'd seriously consider buying a consolidised MVS or an AES with a convertor..

I mean, load times... it just doesn't go with these great action games in my opinion.

If you really want to enjoy the games as they were intended, just a buy a NGH system. To me the Neo CD is more of a collectors item if anything. I'll definitely pick one up sometime.
