You know what, people?

I cannot believe how some of you are bickering about AES cart prices. I am referring specifically here to the Jap MOTW- it is IMPOSSIBLE to find one in Japan (where all the cheap Neo carts are *duh*) for under 40,000 yen. And that is the CHEAPEST deal cone could find- despite that, some of you cheapskates have demanded that resellers such as us sell that cart to you people for the ridiculously low price of $300, and ship it to you for free, to add insult to injury. (A VERY fair price would be, say, $450) In the process, you have made business unporfitable, money-losing even, for all of the billions of poor college students like me in Japan trying not to starve to death while studying abroad. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

for the record, if yukuri danshi is selling MotW for 45000 yen, the total, with profit to the seller and shipping would be under $400 USD, since the yen is so low now at 130y:$1

Of course, I know a lot of people who bought MotW for <$350...

a month after the release of the homecart.

Maybe you should study harder. Then your dumb ass could get a scholarship and stop selling games.

The fact of the matter is that deals can be found, and once one person finds a game at a decent price, then others expect the same. The beauty of capitalism is that when people refuse to overpay for goods and services, the people offering those goods and services are forced to lower prices.

We all love the Neo, which makes us willing to pay high prices for the carts, but let's face it. Neo home cart prices are ridiculous.

Why not try and find some copies of Legend of Success Joe to push on us for $300 a pop? I hear people over here love that one.

Oh, believe me, I know. I'm glad you brought that game up- a "deal" for LOSJ in Japan is 20,000 yen, whereas stateside someone would have to be on crack to pay any more than half that amount for it. It's a terrible game and I am left scratching my head as to why Japanese stores overprice it like they do. So that's one I have always stayed away from.

But $450 for MOTW isn't "overpriced" at all. I have met, on several occasions, naive foreigners in Tokyo vactioning there buying games expecting to make it BIG, only to be rudely awakened by a typical 79,800 yen price tag on a used MOTW cart. If they knew any better they would look elsewhere in Japan, but still, I can pretty much guarantee you that anyone in Japan selling MOTW in the $300-350 range is taking a loss.

And if people really insist on whining this much about how high Neo cart prices are, why not just collect the DC/SS ports? Why are people like this even in the Neo cart business anyway when almost the same games can be had for much cheaper?

Sorry about the "dumb ass" thing. Now that I'm reading it, it sounds a bit harsh.

I tend to overdo it sometimes <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

I wish I could spend a week or two in Japan.

like yahoo jp? yeah, you never ever ever see MotW for more than 50000 Yen there. In fact, you often see it for about 40000 yen. Recently I saw it end for $35000 yen.

Perhaps stores are overpriced - yes, indeed they are - extremely so. If you go to a store, just look for mainstream games. That's the only good deal you can find really. PSX, PS2, DC - otherwise the sellers are on to you <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">.

Akihabara has some great dals, but never on neo geo games. My advice is to simply yahoo.

Yes, Yahoo Japan is a great place to find good deals. In fact, Ebay sellers such as Adol and Yawara (and many others) get there games there for practically 50% lower than they sell it for, making a HUGE profit.

My friend, about six months ago, got a PC Engine LT, a Super Grafx, and a PC Engine GT all for under $800. Great deal since the LT alone often sells for $1000 on Ebay.

Game stores usually check on current market values and price very high. So, when "foolish Americans" come to Japan stores thinking they're going to get some deal, they are shocked about how mistaken they are.

Always shop competitively when buying games. Make sellers compete for YOUR business, so the price goes down. Because when customers compete with customers, the seller will always win. Simple economics.

yeah, a lot of good deals to be found, but you need to know japanese, or have someone dependable who does know japanese, because you can get burned pretty easy by not being able to read the fine print. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

That and you need a mediator. No japanese wants to ship to US or Europe. Most don't know how. And they expect payment by wiretransfer only. No paypal, bidpay, or any otehr hubbabaloo. Forget it. You'll need a mediator. Kind of like what Nikke does for !Arcade! exclusively now (ain't that great!)

My 2 cents,

If games can sell at 400$, it's probably because there's a market for it. Like someone said in a previous post, if nobody would buy a 400$ AES, the seller would have to lower his price or else he would be stuck with it. So my point is: Yes, it's ridiculous but there's people who are willing to buy those so you guys with the AES will unfortunately have to live with the awful price tag. That's unfortunately how it works <IMG SRC="smilies/frown.gif" border="0">

Now that's the kind of insular, isolationist shit that gets my blood boiling. <IMG SRC="smilies/mad2.gif" border="0">

Yes, there are a number of US sellers that do that -but that number is nowhere near as bad as it is over in the land of the rising sun (and falling yen).

From experience, selling Neo Geo games is a hobby, and not a good money maker. Good luck. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Moreover, look at the people you are dealing with, because they are biggest whiners if the game is this price or that price. For ex MS1, "the game is not worth $1600-$2000; it is worth $800-$1000." HELLO, $800-$1000 is a lot too, because people were complaining back then too. I LOL when whiners post new topics or post on how much this game is or that game is, inflate the price more, and then blame it on the collectors/hardcore gamers. <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> Just read and you will find the stupidass(es). <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

I don't see how you can get onto a guy for complaining, and then agree with the creater of this thread, who is in turn complaining himself.

Either way, don't be a self-righteous ass to people who are looking for good deals. Personaly I don't think any game is worth $400+, I don't care how good the game is. You can sit there and ramble on about how we shouldn't be in this hobby or whatever, but if we can find it for cheaper, more power to us. I just don't see what your big problem is with us trying to look for deals. The more people like us, the more prices will drop, as stated previously. How can you hate something like that? What? Then the 5 copies of MOTW you have suddenly won't be worth that much? Some people.. christ..

STFU
Why dont' you just sell your MS AES (any version) for $50? Because you say it's a hobby, not money making.

Prices are high... but people buy carts to collect them and to play them too. If not, just try to explain me the $1.500+ bid for MS on eBay nowadays.
Neo is expensive, maybe too much sometime... But everybody here know that...
