Im thinking of picking up a VF-2 Dedicated cab with part of my tax money this year. Im trying to get at least one new cab a year this way.

I was wondering if any of you own one, and if there is anything I should know about it before hand.
em?
Also, I was wondering what other games can be used in this cab? Is the monitor specific to the Sgea system for example?

Here's one thing to know: that game rocked when it came out. But seriously, it's a high res game, is it not? Also, you won't need a kick harness..... um.... you can go to wwwklov.com to find more about it. I don't think there's anything special about the cab. No CD rom or HD.

its a favorite of mine for sure, I wanted a VF-1 also, but decided to go with VF-2 for more play value.

I was wondering if the different Sega "Model Systems" plug up to this cabs harnesses or what?

I'm pretty sure the monitor is medium res so you won't be able to play too many games on this cabinet.

EDIT: Yep it's medium res. KLOV has this under conversion class of unique and some of the games can be found in the KLOV description:

http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=V&game_id=10329

If you convert it to JAMMA, you will only be able to play JAMMA games that use medium res monitors (like BLITZ).

Oh man, medium res? That sucks... just leave it VF2, and you won't have a problem. For the most part, that's what I like doing. I have one cab and keep it one game always.... so, don't sweat it.

Sega Model hardware usues 24khz medium resolution and more than likely a monitor that supports 24khz is going to support 15khz low resolution aswell.

Im not wanting to jam a bunch of different PCBs in it. If anything I figured I would hook up a Tekken Tag board inside as a secondary game. My 4 slot MVS cab also has a CPS2 in it...that covers all my 2D fighter needs.

I wanted VF-2 and TekTag as my 3D fighter setup. Im not going to do a general use Jamma cab until after this one I think. I do eventually need something for all old PCB games though

would the VF-2 monitor auto switch when using a different frequency? Or is the type of thing you have to setup somehow on the unit itself?

seeing as it would be a monitor from the VF-2 time frame, I'd say it would be a manual switch between resolutions, my New Astro City monitor is dual res but you need to manually change the resolution.

To change the resolution on a manual change monitor you need to go to the monitor chassis board and find a connector with "24"or "24khz" next to it and then unplug that and plug it onto the 15khz pins.

Please do it when the monitor is off ;)

I have some older modelX sega cabs as well and I do it as lachlan says. SEGA uses some nice Nanano chassis with Mitsubishi tubes.

I haven't seen this cab in person yet, but the pics look good. They have it for $1,100.... but I think I can get it for 900-950 if I throw down cash and bring a van like last time with the MVS.

As long as I can get at least Tekken in there in a dual setup of sorts it will be well worth the time and money.

I thought about those Jap Sega cabs, but I'm just too nostalgic for stand ups to get a sit down unit.

Yeah I saw that one ... but 4 days is too soon for me. I haven't received my tax refund yet. I wouldn't feel comfortable bidding on one I cant see up close before hand too. At least when you pick one up in person you can haggle and spend some time looking the machine over.

even if I came out 100-150 more...I don't really care, its worth the peace of mind IMO.

hold out man, I own a dedicated VF 2 and even was able to score the metal topper for it after months of hunting... VF2' s come up on ebay enough to wait for your tax money, there are a few now with damn good prices. Even with HIGH shipping you can get a better deal than 900 bucks I believe. Also remember this, the VF2 cab ( same as VF1, virtua cop etc) is CRAZY HEAVY. 425 pounds... keep that in mind as where you are moving it to.

I do a lot of freight shipping at my shop, excess of 1,000 lbs usually. I would think I could get a good deal if the owner would crate it correctly and for a reasonable price.

whats the metal top? have pics?
