Correcting brightness levels when encoding RGB to NTSC using the AD725

I'm using the AD725 to convert RGB to Composite/S-Video and I'm having issues with the brightness level when connecting it to jamma boards (CPS2). I have the circuit hooked up like it shows in the datasheet and it works but the brightness of the picture is way too high. I've tried putting different resister values on the RGB lines going into the encoder but that has no effect.

Anybody have any suggestions with this?

Use potentiometers (500 should be good) on the R,G, and B line inputs. Adjusting those levels will directly effect brightness.

OK, here's a stupid nOOb electronics question:

How does one put a potentiometer in line with a video signal for this purpose? Most pots have three solder points on them. Which signal goes to which pin? (Signal in, signal out, whatever the third thing is??)

Thanks for any help!

One to the middle and one to the side. The two opposite ones are just the maximum value of the potentiometer.

Connect the rgb inputs across the resistive tracks of the pots (other end to ground) and take the wipers to the rgb inputs of the encoder.

Cool. Thank you all for educating my ignorant ass.

(now to work on my "convert my GW trading supergun to a less stupidly huge box, and rewire the fucker so it's not flaking out on me every time I move the master plug to the left" project! I think I can get it into a 1 1/2" thick box the size of a cps2 board, as that's what would be running on it)
