Isn't this the one where you wouldn't tell me what you bid because you supposedly had your heart set on it, and didn't want me to outbid you?

Like I'd pay $1600+ for a Neo game. Bah.

The game is original and looks very mint. Even though at $1600+, whoever wins the auction will be pleased.

I'll be laughing my ass off 5 years from now when all of these morons paying $1000+ for such "rare" carts run out of room for their junk, go to sell it off, and realize that there are 500 active Neo AES owners left worldwide who will buy it--for about $200 tops.

When the Neo fad falls on its ass, so will the collectors and the prices. Then the gamers will clean up. Too bad we have to wait a few years to see that happen.

Sad words... I do hate people blaming at collectors. A collector is someone with a passion and if he wanna pay 1.500+ for MS he has to do it 'cause MS's price is this and you can't do anything (i. e. praying for the market to fall) against it.
BTW, I do agree with Fran: maybe you just want it and can't afford to buy it...

Anyone with the money still paying >$1100 USD for Metal Slug 1 is either an idiot or a lousy shopper, or has only just jumped in on hte neogeo scene.

I don't have the cart, but I see it for sale in Japan all the time and no one ever buys it unless the price is under 100000 yen.

because they know better.

Why would anyone want the AES market to stay where it is? Prices are ridiculous, and bootlegs are becoming more and more common. You know why there are so many bootlegs out there? Because spending $200 to create a convincing Slug 1 bootleg is very attractive to scammers who can sell it for $1600 to some noob who doesn't know any better.

Forgive me for removing all of the carriage returns in your post. I don't like having to scroll through 8 screenlengths on my 21" monitor.

I can afford it. I'm just not stupid enough to pay. I'd buy 32 new GC/PS2/XBox games (or 100 DC games) over one Slug 1 any day of the week.

And it is the fault of collectors. If buyers will pay $1600 for it, sellers will charge $1600 for it. If buyers stopped paying $1600 for it, pricejackers would be forced to lower the price. Simple economics.

The price will come down in time.

You got it: This is exactly what I will not understand too. Why MS1 stays and MotW falls. Both excelletn games, both ported, both with similar print runs (I think), strange. <IMG SRC="smilies/confused.gif" border="0">

The fact is that Metal Slug 1 is rare, meaning it's a 1996 game and very few pieces were made compared to newer games..

MotW is NOT rare, the price is just set high by the quality of the game...but you see many MotW for sale...

Rarity is the difference between MotW and MS 1..

go third kind its ur birthday go thirdkind go go go go go! lol ne ways i totlly agree. $1600 is absolutly absurd for a game. it's insane. only 2 types of people will buy it at that price: the very wealthy or idiots. plane and simple. and for the record im no idiot and yes, i'm broke.

Metal slug 1 was sold in the FNAC stores in Paris!!!
What game RARE can be sold in Fnac stores in few quatities?
Fnac games are the most popular and common games of the moment.
Don't tell me there were few pieces when in France there were MS 1 everywere.
Now it's a rare game because everyone who like the neo want the game.Every newbie that come , every little rich newbie with his big dollars want this game chen he discover www.neo-geo.com.
THe game is rare because it's good.

i don't think there were less MS 1 than MOTW...

Metal Slug isn't a rare game. People just don't want to part with it and that's about it.

People are overused the term "rare" nowadays.

Still, there is much that can be done with 1600 bloody bucks. (please tell me it wasn't pounds)

I admire the collectors for being so passionate about what they buy, but still, it's hard to understand that people actually pay that much for a game.
