Price jacking is easier to understand when it is the first launch for a new system. I am sure that I will pick up a DS Lite at some point but it is not like it plays different games than the regular DS.

I was playing my regular DS today and I was having fun. Of course maybe I am just saying that because I didn't pre-order a DS Lite? :conf:

It's ¥16,800 about $ 145.00. Most import stores are still raising the price to about $170. I rather wait for a domestic release so I can can my Nintendo of America warranty, since I bought 4 blue DS with stuck or burnt pixels in a row. Rumors has it that the DS lite might be release around the same time as the New Super Mario Brothers (May 7). I forget where I read that though.

That's pretty much true IMO.

The one time I did it was with the SP. I imported a black one from JPN at launch, paid about $150 altogether with shipping. But I was very heavy into GBA at that time and couldn't stand the dark unlit GBA screen anymore. I will also admit it felt pretty cool having an SP when most people never heard of it yet, and also having a black one when the USA only had siover and blue at first.

I really want a Lite now as well. Not to feel "special" but because ever since I had my SP2 I can't stand my DS screens. :glee:

I love bright, vivid screens and will pay a premium for them. The main thing holding me back from importing (aside from Lite's being impossible to get right now due to short supply) is dead pixels. My 1st DS had dead pixels and I was glad I could exchange it easily. With an import that won't be so simple. So I will probably wait for the Lite to get released in the USA.

Your PSP has serious brightness problems compared to mine

However, the GBAMicro LCD technology works wonders on the new DS, it s a pleasure to see (and i wish i had that when playing Castlevania DS).

I personaly love pixels (call that nostalgia) so i don t care if they become more apparent.

Having said that... i will only buy another DS when mine stops working fine (i will not buy the next PSP with shorter LCD delays, better brightness and 8GB storing memory either), and since nintendo does build durable stuff that means never-heck my first gen GB still works-.

Those aren't my photos. Just links I found from Lite owners who posted them.

But I have read comments by several Lite owners, confirming that the Lite's highest setting is brighter than their PSP's highest setting.

But more significantly, I know my PSP is impossible to see in sunlight and under many lighting conditions it's quite hard, especially dark games (I tried playing MGS in a well lit McDonalds once and it was useless unless I held the PSP literally under the table!). The Lite is said to be easily visible even outdoors in sunlight. That is a really important difference IMO.

The ebay seller that had the jacked up price of ~1k for a new DS Lite said October. Ignoring that, I'd say anywhere between mid spring and fall.

Several sites (IGN for example) posted a rumor that the Lite may launch on May 7 in the USA along with New Super Mario DS. I hope that turns out to be true. That would be a great day getting the first truly new 2D Mario platformer since the SNES, and also the DS Lite to play it on with those amazing screens.

And where the heck are those SNK games that were talked about for the DS? I think there was talk of Card Fighters Clash and Metal Slug for DS.
