I played Gunstar Super Heroes till 4 a.m. this morning :emb: I almost thought I wasn't gonna stay awake at work, but oddly enough my eyes are wide fooking open. Without a doubt one of the best platformers I've played. So hard, but so satisfying, I think if they cut 1 or 2 of the weapons it would be more balanced, but as it is I can't complain. You pretty much need to have 3 weapons otherwise you almost don't stand a chance against Green's Seven Force. Haven't finished the game yet, I'm on G-ARC and haven't gotten past Don Jon.

How is Guardian Heroes Advanced? Now I really wanna pick up that game, if it offers the same satisfying gameplay experience.

Funny enough I just got a GBA micro last week and have picked up Guardian Heros along with Astro Boy and Gunstar Heros.

Guardian Heros is badass def worth a purchase. Tight gameplay and good graphics if you've played the first you should know what to expect. My only gripe with the game is the story screens pause my ass kicking every couple min.

GHA is a blast. My only complaint is that the GBA version is too similar to the Genesis. The levels didn't feel "fresh" or new. It's still a fun game and hard game though.

Wrote the first GameFaqs review of it back when it was released:

Can't say I enjoyed GSH mainly because of how it was marketed; I expected a sequel but got a really good-looking remake. Other than that, I dunno...I never thought of it, but maybe I did have more fun with AGH.

Astro Boy tops them all, easy.

Yeah, I've been hearing that Gunstar Super Heroes is more like a remake... I was surprised when I read that the first time, because I read the Nintendo Power interview with Treasure, and according to those interviewed, no one on the original team worked on Gunstar Super Heroes, 'cos according to the interviewee, Treasure wanted to create a new generation of Gunstar Heroes by pushing the GBA 2D hardware to its limits. I guess I'll have to play a bit of the original Gunstar Heroes to see for myself.

Guardian Heroes Advance got really shit on when it came out. They said the combat was flawed, and a bunch of other stuff. It's kind of kept me away from it.:(

But if the general consensus on here is a thumb's up, I might have to pick it up.

Guardian Heroes Advanced doesn't even come close to touching the greatness of the original.

The game itself is only half good once you unlock all the characters and play through it again.

Overall, it's not as bad as some people make it out to be, but the complaints that those people make about it are more often valid than not.

Gunstar Super Heroes is probably my second favorite GBA game.

It's true that it's not so much a sequel as it is a remake, but it's a damn fine [and fun] game nonetheless (not counting the Helicopter level... which just plain sucks.)

Astro Boy is tops though.

Easily one of the best GBA games to date.

Yeah, the helicopter level made me weep, because it didn't provide the challenge that a true vertical shooter provides, and the turrets were almost impossible to take out without the cover of buildings.

I've been thinking of picking up Astro Boy, but does it have the Japanese language setting for the US release? Normally SEGA titles do.

You can actually get through most of the level by just hanging on the right side and doing as little shooting as possible.

The problem is, even though you can get to the boss with full health, there's no real strategy to fighting it (you basically just rush in and jam on the shoot/bomb buttons), so no matter what you do, you'll always end up leaving with next to no health.

It does.

And do pick it up, the hype behind that game is real.

Not true. Just get as close to the middle of the front of the ship as possible (don't touch it and bounce off as that pushes you too far away - you need to get as close as possible without making contact) and then just fire away. You may take some hits from behind, but you are protected from the two main guns at the side of the ship in this position.

However, the entire level sucks.
