We've recently discovered that an ordinary household appliance can put children IN HARM'S WAY.

Keith Dunn/Internet Safety Expert: "Predators are using Nintendo DS anywhere in the world. And it's going to be really hard to track down those individuals because of course, they're on a wireless network from a hotspot such as a coffee shop. Or if they're in a wireless environment, say a coffee shop or whatever, they jump on the wireless network so now you have predators who are trying to get at our kids."

This is the same part that made me :spock: Hard to track down those individuals? They are holding a goddamn DS in their hands. Nintendo was well aware of the possibility that this could become a liability so they setup the friend code system. It's an imperfect system in an imperfect world, but I only want to play games against my friends most of the times anyways, not some damn dirty snakers

People are just stupid and lazy and look for anyone to blame but the parents.

The article mentioned that this incident happened in Pictochat, and as far as I know, Pictochat isn't WiFi compatible. So, those claims seem perfectly logical to me

If you were Dinkins, YOU WOULD BE WRONG AGAIN.

In this case, you're just wrong (1st time).

The writer of that article, the parents interviewed and their kids need to be dragged out into the middle of the street and shot in the face.

Pictochat only works up to about 65 feet away like Nintendo said and is not WiFi compatible, same for most games.

You can't talk to anyone in Mario Kart DS, on or offline, the same applies for THPS. You can only play with people that you know in Animal Crossing, but you can talk to them.

I suggest that parents learn to keep their kids further than 65 feet away from pedophiles and restrict them from trading friends codes with random strangers on the street, just a thought.

I sent the link to nintendo, and told them they should sue ABC news for publishing that piece.

Im sorry but that article was straight bullcrap. "Emily" knew full well that whoever was talking to her had to be within close proximity of her b/c "Emily" was the DS owner and should know that pictochat requires another DS user. It would have been as simple as looking around the room she was in. And all these "experts" who claim to know what they are talking about should really research the products they talk about before making such unfounded claims that a gaming system places kids in danger like that.

I swear the media always wants to blame some popular form of entertainment for bad parenting.

It's like the time I saw this program warning parents against violence in video gaming, and they were ragging on SUPER SMASH BROTHERS... The media is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for stories these days.

I don't see what's so wrong with this. I would think that Nintendo would recognize this as a new focus group and a new feature to market. I mean, shit, who hasn't wished that there was a quicker, more efficient way to search for willing 4th graders?

dangers of the DS revisited

Me and Yuckmud with a couple other friends did a comic about the dangers of the DS abc bullcrap article. I mean the news report was merely a case of yellow journalism. I am waiting for abc news to find out about dl'ing pornt the psp. Maybe they will do a story on an underground psp porn ring? Here is a link to the comic

I'm really curious to know where these "experts", "analysts", and "officials" come from... Seriously, I'd love to be an "internet safety expert" and get paid 75k a year to say don't give out your name, phone number, home address, or social security number on the internet...

Actually, I think I've posted all but my SS number here alone. :kekeke:
