how do I test continuity with this multimeter?

with the position ohm. The multimeter will act as an ohmeter, and if you have
continuity, you should get 0 ohm.
But, be careful when testing continuity on digital circuitry such as memory chips etc...
you should use a digital multimeter, not an analog one, to not damage anything.

thanks! I think the one I have is just broken.....I tried that and got nothing. Tried different batteries etc too.....

oh well, off to buy a multimeter.....

nagrom is right... DO NOT use an analog meter like that one to test the continuity of traces on a circuit board. It's fine for wiring harnesses, but you are putting the battery that is inside the voltmeter right in series with the leads to measure resistance. That is NOT a good thing.

Digital voltmeters don't do that.
