Picked it up the other day, and I have to admit that I'm quite surprised how nicely the AoE series was shrunk down to fit comfortably on the DS. The campaign mode is nice and long, the scope of things has been restricted enough to fit but not too much to feel small, and the new turn-based style works very well.

I'm most of the way through the Joan of Arc campaign so far, and I'm quite happy with what I've seen. Titles like this are the ones that make me hope Majesco hangs on (they published, for some reason).

I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an addictive strat game to complement or follow Advance Wars DS.

Yes...it is a fantastic game. All of the reviews have been very positive so far as well. I am hoping to try out multi-player at some point, since it offers hot seat and multi-card, multi-player.

I bought this the other day. The thing plays like age of empires and civilizations. Great title through and through. I hope majesco hangs on too.

Pick this up now! Wish there was a simple online mode though.

Advance wars. Stacks up pretty well. The gameplay is really ballanced. I like both games alot. There isnt really a comical aspect to it though. The more I play it the more I like it. The enemy even builds buildings around your units to trap you in so you cant run. Great game hands down. Pick it up if you like civilization for the pc.

I'm a big Age of Empires fan. I've been following the whole Age of series on PC since Age of Empires 2. I haven't picked it up yet as I've been really reserved about how they could turn this RTS into a good turn-based strategy game. But I've seen a lot of positive comments on it, and I do love turn-based strategy (usually for games that already are turn-based), I may give this one a go.

I even have the Age of Mythology Board game. Which in a funny way, simulates a semi-turn based gameplay by the simultaneous actions certain players can do one anybody's turn. So I was a bit reserved as to how a full turn-based engine would work. Would it play anything like Age of Empires?

Kinda suprised by what I'm reading, I assumed it would be horrible. I can't think of any consolized RTS that turned out good (Starcraft on the N64....the pain). I might pick this up after Metroid Hunters.

I have both those games and I kind of like advance wars better.
I mostly base it off the fact that I have played AV about 20 times...vs the 3-4 times I picked up AOE.

If you like the PC games chances are you will like the DS one... especially if you're into the whole "knights + armor" thing... you will enjoy it.

I'm glad I have it, but I rarely feel like playing it honestly.

It's not just the Knights in Armor stuff. What made Age of Empires tick was that in one game session, you would play though up to 4 different ages. And kind of like Civilization, technology changed as you went further in time. The strategies you used, and just about anything you make, would change as a single game progressed. You also had interesting resource avenues, marketing, and trade aspects. In a way, it was the Civilization aspects, mixed with its own things, that made them work. The Age of Empires, which this one was based off of, also had a big thing about setup and formations, though I'm unsure if those aspects made it across.

There are no formations, one guy represents a unit of men and you move him on the map. When you go into battle it switches to the other screen in which an automated battle takes place which is based on the stats of the units fighting. Basically going through a matimatical equation played out by cinematics. Still good though
