Edit:

here's the setup I am using...of course wired up right now.

and the picture I am getting...it doesn't scroll at all.

I didn't put the 200uf caps on as I was using the little video amp thing.

Is that causing this picture?

Is it in the right resolution?

Did I cut the right wire?

ok, so I am reading up on this fo fun and see where you get rgb and sync, but which ground on the 15 pin do you use for video ground on the jamma edge?

Low and medium....

ooh ok....

If your going for a Low (Medium is not compatable),

Then use this guide ova here:
http://www.gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=av:dreamcastav

I wouldn't use the VGA output....

I cracked open a Blaze VGA adaptor and soldered right to the VGA box PCB....

Just tap pins 14,15,16 and 10 as they come into the VGA adaptor (via a 220 uf cap of course)....

You have to cut the line on either pin 6 or 7 (Can't remeber which one) to get the conlse to switch to 15khz

I used the Headphone output to drive the Cab's speakers.

So, as I take it, I cut the 6 wire as it comes into the vga box. Mine has a numbered harness, so I just cut wire 6. right?

could you explain this part?

You need a 200-220 uf Capcitor on each of the Red, Blue and Green lines.... I think the positive end points towards the Console. Check Gamesx for confirmation.

yeah, that's what I read...ok cool. They said 200 uf. Why did you go 220?

also, the cab has an amp for both mono and stereo....with right and left rca inputs. Could I use a stereo spliter from the headphone out to the amp's rca inputs?

^^also, could I use this? or could it hurt something?

Just to be clear on the 200 uf caps.....they go on the wires coming from the console to the vga adapter before they hit the vga adapter?

What is this for? Boost the signal? If so, will the video amp do that?

Sorry, still not to sure about caps and stuff...thanks for answering the rookie questions, lol!!!

here's where I am right now....

Wackydoodle doo!

I'd just try to run it off of the vga output connector then If that doesn't work, Just cut the lines comming in... remember that the caps have to be the right polarity.

200/220 should work about the same.... I use 220 for other projects so I just went with that...

As for the audio... If your cab has it's own amp (I assume that it's a candy), I'd just run the RCA rather than the headphone....

Just to make sure.....you are saying "try it without the caps" and then if it doesn't work, try it with them?

I don't have the caps, so if I am correct, I will try it tonight...if not, I will hope that some parts store is open tomarrow.

hopefully this will be the last "clearing up" I will need on this :)

thanks for the help! I just have no money and am really wanting to do something with this cab.

Don't use the VGA output.... Dump the Video Amp...

Just tap the RGB,Sync lines comming into the VGA adaptor....

Make sure the 3 caps are electrolytic.... I think the positive end has to go towards the System....

Remeber that you have to cut either pin 6 or 7.... I can't remember which one.

the thing I am not understandig is, if I tap the lines before they get to the vga box, won't I be bypassing the whole box? Or is that ok?

ok....

so here's my setup now...

-everything is wired in, caps are wired in after the vga out on the vga box with the + side going to the console's direction.

-I have the sync's twisted together

-I have what I think is the 6th pin wire cut

so what is causing this picture?

Don't bother with the Horiz and Vert Sync... Just use the Composite sync.

You're not sending the right Sync signal, that's what's causing the picture.

got the right wire. It was the other wire reading on the multi from 6. When I hit the vga/s-vid switch to cut the ground's from 6, but still read that pin 6 went to two wires on the other side. Works fine now.....most likely would have worked through that vid amp too them, as I got the same result. Glad I didn't toss it, lol...

anyways, thanks for all of the help!

It looks really nice! The left side is over a bit, but it didn't bother me enough to fix it.

I do. I love my Naomi setup, but they don't have the majority of the DC's lineup to pick from. I am going to be going through many dc games tonight :)

Edit: Yeah, this was cheap and easy. Thanks again for all of the help!
