Have this v5 ps2 model 30004R,no modchip installed.
It wont read any games(dvd nor cd) not even brandnew ones.
I cleaned the lens, calibrated the laser dvd and cd.
Did laser height adjustment.
No success so far.
The drive makes a grinding sound and does not spin at full speed(12x ?).
Sometimes it starts and then stops and starts again.
What can i do to save this baby?

I managed to boot a game with the console upsite down.
These things really suck.
Game freezes on the next loading screen.

Either your transport or transport cap are trashed.

However, dicking around with all those other settings likely wrecked the rest of it, so solving your transport issue likely won't help now.

Strange thing happened to me a few days ago got castle of shikigami 2 usa version.

For that game and only that game there is a loud grinding/rubbing noise and like above drive speeds up and slows down.

The game works and i have had a look at the disk its clean wonder why that is though

True. Once you mess with the power and height of the laser it will never be the same, unless you know what you are doing.

Transport is okay i checked that first.
When i got the console it was not able to play any game at all.
Now this freakin thing plays games when turned upsite down.
I see this as a progress :p
The grinding sound is produced by the dvd on the tray which does not spin correctly.
Anyone with a productive solution?

Buy a new PS2.

They don't exactly cost the earth.

Agreed.
Sony supposedly addressed some of the reliability issues with the release of the Slimline PS2.

Solid state still rules the roost though.

Get yourself a Neo, mate. :)
