Anyone ever try using an A/V - S-Video adapter?

Basically on the Neo or the Genesis.

I was just wondering if there was any improvement at all in signal quality.

I realize that it is NOT a replecement for an s-video mod since it converts a signal but I was just curious is all.

Thanks.

To be honest with you, It would look the same or worse using an adapter cause the AV video signal get's combined from the system and then split for the s-video lines and then split again by the TV's S-video comb filter on the chrominance signal.

All this is basically saying is that it's splitting and combining the original video singal more than if you just used straight AV.
So I reckon it would proably give you worse quality than what was originall being outputted from the machine.

I use a low-end one from Radio Shack on my AES and it doesn' really make a difference. It's more of a convenience for my S-Video system selector. Monster Cable makes one that supposedly works, but it's $100 here in the U.S. It looks like an oversized writting pen, with connections on both ends.

I used to run my Genesis through a switch box that converted composite to s-video (also for convenience) and didn't notice any change.

I just tested one out from Circuit City last night and both my Neo and my X'EYE looked pretty crap.

Guess I'll have to brush up on my soldering skills and get a couple of the Mod kits sold here on the Neo Store.

I'm guessing the X'EYE mods similar to the Neo. :conf:

Or it will not improve, or the it will make it worse (color bleeding in my saturn)

It's just a paliative for use in TVs without the appropriate connectors, they aren't made to be good.
