When I last played the PSP about 4 months ago, it had a full charge. I turn in on yesterday, it lost its charge despite not being used for 4 months.

WIth my NGPC and GBA SP, I haven't used either of them in over a year, and when I turn them on, they work just fine.

What's with the battery on the PSP? Another reason why the PSP isn't looking too good.

Most batteries, especially rechargeable ones can't sit for a long time charged and not used. Thats why lots of items that have rechargeable batteries, even such as my laptop, will randomly drain it every once in a while and if plugged in fully recharge it. That might be the reason.

Did you put it in standby mode, or did you turn it off completely? 'Cause standby will still drain a trickle of power (like sleep mode on a laptop).

What i hate on the DS is that when you use the standby mode by closing the shell (because you have not saved yet but don t want to loose what you ve done so far) the battery still dies rather quickly... usualy when i do so and reopen only the day after, my battery indicator is red. It s not so much a problem now on Kirby, but on Castlevania it was (i play during transports to and from my workplace).

If you know you re going to leave the PSP off for a certain time, keep the on-off switch on the up position for few seconds until the console switches off, that s the real "OFF" mode (when you push up again you will see the boot sequence, sony computer blah blah blah). Beware though, leaving the machine in real off for a long time makes it loose its flash data (i.e. the game status on wich you were when switching off, date/time etc)

That's what I thought when I read this thread.

It happens even when shut completely off. After 4 months or so, my PSP was completely dead after a full charge and being completely shut down.

It depends on the type of battery used. Different Batteries work in different ways, like some have a memory. It will say in the instruction manual of many items not to leabe them unused and charged. I remember my battery for my PSOne said the same thing in the manual. I forgot about that and didn't use it for 6 months and now it won't hold a charge at all.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me, in a lot less than 4 months, although possibly not from a full charge. Annoying, but, yes, some kinds of rechargeables do seem to do that. My laptop and Palm seem to drain themselves pretty quickly, whereas my phone and GBAs seem to last a good deal longer.

RGP, if you have a lot of consoles it's easy enough to ignore one for a month or two, even when you do have some games to play.

Well the NGPC will supposedly get 75+ hours on lithium photo batteries.

Well lets just hope that better games come out so that people use their PSPs more than once every four months.

The PSP has a few good games with some better ones on the way. Sony needs to have more consistent quality (Non PS2) games for the PSP. If they can do this, I am sure that I could be interested again.

There have been times where my PSP has been turned off for well over four months though.

Back on topic...I have multiple DS systems and the battery life is not the same on all of them. IMO there are some quality issues with the launch systems battery length. My two launch DS systems battery are no where near as good as the others I have picked up since. Could just be mine though.

Consistent quality?

What's wrong with the ports,if you don't mind me asking?

And here I thought the ports of SFZ3,Gradius,GGXX#Reload,etc. were pretty damn good..

Well, you can always sell me your PSP ;)

You know...if I ever close down my store, I will have a couple to sell :chimp: I own two systems one I leave at the store that is only used to test out used PSP games when they come in. Then I have another system at home that I really never use. I still own it because I keep hoping that some better games will come out.

My problem isn't just ports. I really don't have a problem with that by itself. My problem is with the lack (week after week) of quality games to look forward to. This is what is setting the PSP and the DS apart right now. Ports or games based off existing franchises is fine but that for the most part is all that the PSP has had.

Maybe if I liked the PS2 better I would enjoy the PSP more?

Well, the name is pretty much self-explanatory.

Playstation Portable.

If you didn't like PSX/PS2,then there's a good chance that you probably won't care much for the PSP and its upcoming releases.

So...since it is the Playstation Portable, that meant that only ports were going to come out on it? Okay...I get it.

I am just saying that they need more variety. With the DS Nintendo is finally on the right track. I have agreed with you, that is in part due to the competition from the PSP. I am just waiting for Sony to start acting like they want to compete and start offering a little more in terms of variety.

The DS has been cranking out a good game pretty much every week, I can't say the same for the PSP. All you have to do is look at the reviews/sales figures.

What is it about the DS that you don't like? From a gaming stand point I can't understand someone not see what a great device the DS is.

uhh...portable playstation?

Perhaps our taste in gaming are different?

I like arcade games, and there's plenty of that available for the PSP,hence my preference for the console.

The DS does have its fair share of good titles, but not many of them interests me. Just about the only game I'm looking forward to for the DS is the New SMB. Am I missing something on the DS front?

About the only thing I didn't like about the DS are the poorly lit screen and its bulkiness.

Well, I have over 70 DS titles (USA/Japan) so maybe our tastes are different. The DS may just not be your thing if you are only looking forward to the New SMB. I can understand that because I would not own a PSP or a PS2 if I didn't have a store.

What can I say? There isn't much else I can think of,besides the New SMB.

I mainly wanted a DS for a handful of games (Castlevania,Meteos,Advance Wars,Ouendan,and Trauma Center)...maybe that's my problem.
