Mahjong Minashanno (Rare 1st run?)

I found something...

Mahjong Minashanno
Listed right now on neo-geo.com as only a soft case
with the SNK logo on the top of the insert.

Collectors might be missing 2 more versions of this game!!


Game 1 - 1st Run?
I have Mahjong Minashanno with a different insert!!
The Monolith logo is on the front and spine of the insert,
and there are different words and numbers on the lower back of the insert.
Even the Neo Geo Hotline has a different phone number.
(The game cart and manuals are exactly the same.)

Is this similar to Metal Slug 3 JPN, 1st and 2nd run??
Mahjong Minashanno currently listed on neo-geo.com is probably the 2nd run!


Game 2 - Carton
Also, I have a Carton version of Mahjong Minashanno.
(not even listed on neo-geo.com)

All 3 games are MINT!!

This Mahjong Minashanno JPN Monolith insert is not Freaked!

It's the same high-quality printed insert that we all know from SNK.

This is probably the 1st run!! of Mahjong Minashanno
It looks like SNK's "2nd run" just blacked out the top of the insert
and placed the white SNK logo there.

Nothing new, in part at least.

Several jap games have a case and a carton box versions, like Ninja Combat, Thrash Rally, Cyberlip - the ones that come from the top of my mind.

The carton box version is previously documented, however the Monolith soft cover is a neat find!

I thought someone found one of the rumored versions that has the neo modem in it... going back to sleep now.

PS- this is not a crap game, fuck offs... probably the best game of jong on the neo-geo... it's at the very least the most fair.

Most likely. As a amatter of fact, almost every NeoGeo JPN game got multiple releases. In may occasion they re-printed the insert just to update phone numbers of their HQ. IN some other cases (i.e. with carton boxes) they just slapped tiny sticher on the phone numbers area. FF1 is also documented to have two different run inserts. Yet this one find, due to the MAJOR change in the insert, is really a neat one!

Shhh.... you've found only the beginning of one of the lesser known secrets in Neo Geo home carts.

That's not the only one, sadly I'm not an expert on the rest so I can't just start naming the others --but someone has explained it to me in person before and I was just as surprised as you were.

I didn't know you played the mahjong nruva.

I got this cart from kernow, it rocks, I reset the game a few times to test its algorithm and it actually doesn't cheat like some of the arcade or console mahjong games that load a pre-determined set of tiles (Super Mahjong Reunion on GBA, anyone?) I play the shit out of my Minasamano Okagesama De Mahjong, it has a competent AI, a lot of wacky Japanese variety show humor, and what is up with that continue screen?
