I got going with the beta last night and I must say that I haven't got a clue as to what is going on. There is so much happening at once that my head hurts. I'm supposed to be finding some lost kids dad or summat, but then I was told to kill rabbits and ding bats to level up.

Then there's this PlayOnline thing too, I had to set up some kind of mail address or summat and a handle and about 700 passwords and user names and........oh man. Is there somewhere I can go to try to make some sense out of all of this? PSO was never this difficult.

I like the idea of FFXI, but it seems so difficult to actually get into it. It's taking up about 5GB too, maybe I'll just scrap the whole idea.

Ok cool. Also how do I find out what server I am on?

Every FFXI 360 Beta user is on Hydra.

I'm gonna spend a few more hours on this tonight. Try and work out some more of what's going on. I guess it's all about time. I'm sure I'll begin to understand what everyone is talking about sooner or later. It's just so overwhelming at the moment. Maybe a manual would help a little.

Also is the friends list different on here than on regular Live? How do you become friends?

That's because PSO isn't a MMORPG.

MMORPG's have the steepest learning curve in all of gaming, and FFXI is probably one of the worst ones to just "jump" into if you're not familiar with the genre.

Although that's exactly what I did when it first came out in the US on PC.

It sucks at first, but once you get around level 25-30 you should [hopefully] have a solid idea of what's going on.

Until then, if you're serious about getting into it, just read a shitload of the FAQs and guides in those links that kafuin_gaira posted.

And feel free to ask as many questions as you need, because although I've never had a job past 50 (I've taken most of them to that level), I have been playing this since it came out and certainly know what's going.
