ok, it's 99% that I'll get a new astro by the end of this month, now i got some questions for you guys since I know nothing about cabs.

if i use this cab with mvs, i assume only 4 button will be working... what if i change it to my atomisave mobo, does it switch to 5 button straight away or do i need some other modification?

same question goes to the cps3, which uses 6 buttons.

So you are getting a six button astro? If so, it will be wired for six button games meaning that you will only get A B and C from a neo geo, and 1,2 and 3 from jamma. The rest of the buttons (4 5 and 6) come from a support harness commonly refered to as a "kick harness" this plugs into your cps2-3 board to get the extra buttons.
Fear not, you can still wire a button on the bottom row to work for both the kick harness and neo geo button D. Its very easy to do.
The other option would be for you to drill another hole next to button three for the D button. Usually however, an astro wont have space for this unless it was designed to be 7 button, and it will look a little haggard.

Well thats one way of doing it (solder), however the best way is to just use quick dissconnects which are availible at pretty much any electronic parts store. I would suggest just geting the cabinet: your going to have work to do when you get into arcade games. When you get everything in order just jump on here and some one will guide you through the process. Trust me its too much to try to explain unless you are looking under the control panel of your game...

Soldering may be required in the event that your jamma harness does not have any wires connected to the pins for buttons 4 and 5 for players 1 and 2. You should also keep in mind that Jamma is setup for mono sound while MVS is stereo sound. In addition, the monitor in a New Astro City cab is only medium res. You will not be able to use the VGA connector on your Atomiswave to output high res on this monitor since it will only be CGA and EGA. These are all small issues but should still be taken into consideration when making your decision on what cab to purchase. Good luck to you.

thanks for the input guys.

yeah i'll try and get it first and then ask further questions after its here in front of me.

and regarding AW, i'll use it to play fighters only, kofxi and hokuto, so i think low/med res should be good enough. they would look bad in high res, wouldn't they?

I actually perfer high res over the low res. I don't mine the jaggies that eveyone else seems to complain about in these fighting games. In either case, your games will still look great on the New Astro City monitor.

OK dudes, I got my cab today.

It came with 6 buttons but when I open the panel there's no wires attached to button 4-6.

How do I connect them?

If not, will this work with both MVS ans AW?

Don't bother with getting that harness. All you have to do is splice/solder directly off of the Jamma harness and then route the wires up to your CP. Crimp quick disconnects terminals on all of the wires and then plug them into your buttons. You can piggy back/daisy chain the ground wire from your existing buttons to your new buttons. If you don't have any supplies then you can purchase them from Bob Roberts. Remember that button 5 on the Jamma harness is also game select up/down on MVS. Good luck to you.

Ummm I have no idea what you're talking about...:kekeke:

I'm a total newb when it comes to this thing.

So, I wanted to avoid soldering as much as possible, what are my next options?

After researching, dissconnects might be a good solution. Can I get them on a local electronic store? If yes, which store carries it? I'm new to USA too, you get the idea.

When I check my harness, there's actually wires on position 25 and 26, on my supergun that's actually the 4th and 5th button. But when I tried to trace it I couldn't find the other end...
