For some reason my Metal Slug 3 and Garou carts have trouble booting like 75% of the time. When I boot them up, it goes straight into the cross hatch test as if there were no game inserted. I cleaned all of the contacts and both of these games are definately originals. Any ideas on what could cause this? Will upgrading to a newer mother board help? Its very odd, SSVS runs perfect every time on my current setup and it is even newer than Garou and Slug 3.

Very strange.....all I can think of is that your motherboard doesnt seem to like the early encrypted carts for some reason. Tried it with the standard bios?

This isnt a unibios problem. Its certinally in relation to your mobo and carts. SSVS dosent have the same protection but MOTW & MS3 do providing its the original versions. Basically we are talking about the games with the SMA protection. Personally I think its a cart contact or voltage issue.

Its probably just the cart contacts then. Once the games get going, they run perfect for long durations. I'll clean the contacts tonight with a pencil eraser/ rubbing alcohol and see how that goes.

I can't have Metal Slug 3 and Garou carts together in my Big Red 4 slot Mobo .
(standard US Bios)
I have to remove one or the other..then either will work
The sound on the board will go out..

Perhaps its a voltage issue then. Maybe your powerpack isnt giving the MV-1 enough juice.

Teh B0ardz do vary quite a bit as to what they actually require at the +5v rail.

My 6-slot needs at least 5.2v to boot and run in a stable manner, whereas my MV-1F only needs 4.5v

Raz- I'm using a Jameco SC200 so I'm pretty sure the voltage is correct.

I'm also pretty sure that the issues I was having were with dirty contacts. I cleaned them very well with alcohol and cuetips and they have been booting a lot better than before.

thanks for the help guys,
Bill
