Neo/CPS 6 button machine?

Hi again,

Last problem I have for now, will be an easy answer for someone!

I currently have 2 cabs, one is under restoration and not in use yet but has a better screen than my current Neo cab.

Now I was going to have the 2 cabs one for neo/hyper 64 and the other for misc PCB's and 6 buttoned fighters (CPS), but I really only have room for 1 in the living room. The other would have to be in the spare room and wouldn't get the use becasue of this. So I would like to go down to one.

Cab room is going to be at a push but I will strip all the coin collection box and everything out and mount PCB's here and there. Can I have the usual neo 4 buttons/colours in a row as is set out for MVS cabs. Then have an additional 3 buttons under these four, directly under the first 3 neo buttons? These would be wired to the kick harness. Now when it comes to CPS/6 button games would the 4th Neo button become obsolete as I hoped and then the gaming would revert to a normal 3 above 3 button setup? I am right here, or would the 4th button (Neo blue/D) be the light kick as it were?

Thanks for all the help I have recieved off here. Maybe I can repeat the gesture to newbies of the future :)

Yes you are right. The 4th MVS button would do nothing because only buttons 1,2 and 3 on CPS come from the JAMMA. Button 4,5 and 6 come from the extra button connector.

Aren't the D&D games the exceptions? According to the manual the 4th button is wired to the JAMMA connector.

Hey fellow UK gamer. Ive just been thinking about doing the same thing and having a neo and CPS in the same cab. Rather than have 7 buttons per side though would it not be posible to wire up the 4th button to BOTH the jamma harness and the kick harness so it would work whether you had the 1slot or CPS board plugged in?

Im also a little confused about the kick harness? There is only a very small space between the jamma connection and the kick harness connection on the CPS boards. How do you plug the kick harness in when the jamma harness is so wide it covers both connections (if you get what i mean???)

That's the Button Layout I use....

I don't connect the 4th button on the bottom row to anything... If It wasn't already there, I wouldn't Drill it...

Also, Cyberbots has a Neo Geo pinout for the fourth button.

The only thing is im pushed for space. i can just about manage 6buttons a side but 7 buttons might be a squeeze. is it possible to run 2 wires to the same button?

That might be possible mate I don't know. But I wanted it to feel like an MVS machine for my Neo and Hyper. And feel like a Street Fighter for them. So it was the only solution for me and it has worked well. I have built another control panel and moved the joysticks closer to the left to fit more in. The buttons are all as close as possible to each other, allowing the nut to tighten up on each still. I am happy with the result.

I have 4 in a row in usual Neo colours and then 3 under the first 3 in the same colours, it looks OK. I have the first 3 slightly diagonally (towards the screen) then the 4th for Neo games level horizontally with the third. Then the others for CPS sloping upwards the same as the first 3. I will post pics when I get the machine home from my parents garage.

Ive got the NOS Neo Geo cpo to go on and all new happ buttons and joysticks so hopefully it will look better done than in the photo.

Il have to wire either the 1st or 4th button to both the jamma and kick harness but hopefully it should all work ok.

My cab is an electrocoin who made the official UK Neo cabs

I was looking for one to swap straight out but no luck.

Now all i need to do is find someway of making those speakers look a bit better, theyre so ugly!!!! :help:

That wont work, for MVS/CPS you need either 7 buttons or a switch that will move the A button to where the B button is when using CPS.

CPS will be like this otherwise

The only other option is this

s.jpg

but the 2nd player button Z would be crammed in and my hand would bang off the side of the cab.

Its between that or dealing with BCZ
AXY :conf:

i could just cover the whole thing in bondo and start from scratch but id much rather just work with the holes i already have

any ideas?

Make a switch to change the button layout, the you can have your original layout .

Get a PS2.

PM me if you want a CPS2 A board too.
