I upgraded to 2.60 and let it finally be done with.
It's stupid really.
We're to ignore features of a handheld we paid $250 for just so we can have games we've played a million times over on the go?
Yeah, the PSP still has a poor library of games (as far as I'm concerned at least), but keeping your firmware at 1.50 just for homebrew is like throwing $250 to the garbage in my opinion. What have we gotten since 1.5? The most noticeable additions have been the internet browser, AVC video compression and RSS feeds, not to mention the fact that you can't play some games of 2.00+ firmware regardless of there being a loader for them or not. You can't even run UMD ISOs from the memory stick anymore from what I've heard, so really, what's the point of holding unto 1.50?
I hear there's an e-mail client coming that is not web-based, not to mention a couple of quality games down the road. We're to give this all up to play Super Mario Bros. for the millionth time? I'm guessing some of us even own some of the games we're running on the PSP. I know I own most of the neo games I like to play, why give up the latest PSP features and upcoming ones just so I can play these games on the go with lesser controls and on a smaller screen?
Bottom line is, unless Sony allows people to run homebrew it's not really worth the hassle, for both users and coders alike.
Yeah, people have found out ways to run homebrew on 2.60 already, but it requires GTA and it's still not as clean or easy as in 1.50, not to mention that you can't run every single piece of homebrew on it.
It's a losing battle and people should start to reconsider.
