Sorry if this has been mentioned but I just saw a MS6 ad in Arcadia that says "FINAL MISSION! READY?"

Engrish? Or are they giving up on the franchise?

Can only be a good thing, at least for the time being.

There are some great slugs that are worth playing again and again.

Sega will continue to support the AW but that he didn't know about any games after MS6 ¬_¬. And summat about 99.9% of people other than enthusiasts would not buy an AW or summat lame like that.

:spock:

All Metal Slug games have a "final mission" stage and that doesn't mean the franchise dies. That "final" can refer to the last part of that game, or just that this is the "latest" game. I don't see how you can deduct the end of the franchise just from that.

And of course only "enthusiast" would buy an AW from home use, but arcade dealers will do if they can get money from it. Anyway it wouldn't surprise me if MS6 was actually the last AW game.

On my official MS6 flyer it refers to the AW as Sega hardware, looks like the brand Sammy has been completed dropped now :shame:

I realize that, which is why I asked. It does say "FINAL MISSION! READY?" in big letters across the ad, which to me either means

a) A dodgy translation (although they've used "NEW MISSION! READY?" before)

or

b) They can't be bothered starting from scratch with a high resolution design for a franchise that isn't their biggest earner, so they're canning it

First noticed that with the Asian release of NGBC. No Sammy logos anywhere, no AW badge on the mobo. I thought it might be a sign they were killing it but then HNK and MS6 were confirmed. I'm sure it's just brand structuring. Makes sense to brand all games SEGA and keep the Sammy brand Pachinko related etc.

The good ship 'Atomiswave' is going down.

Apparently: MS6 and KofXI are to be the last games SNKP make for it.

SegaSammy never got the support for the AW that they wanted, so now it's being quietly ushered out the back door.

They never chased it like Taito did so it's their own fault. Wouldn't surprise me if SNKP stuck with the hardware rather than moving to Naomi. They certainly don't need anything more powerful and there are plenty of AW fighter cabs around Japan.

It's a shame.

The AW is easily powerful enough for SNKP's needs.
It does stonking 2D and is pretty good at 3D.

Plus: IT USES ROM CARTRIDGES, WHICH ALL ARCADE HARDWARE SHOULD!!!
Not bloody discs and loading times and arcade operators having to polish the lenses....

But alas, SegaSammy aren't making enough money.
They're just using up all the bits that they've got left and that'll be it. No more AW.

I'm not sure how a sprite can be a certain 'bit'

but ok.. I'll accept the fact I'm right I guess.
