Hi !

I'd like to change my regular bios to unibios on my mvs mobo. Since i have other
active projects involving eproms, i'd like to buy blank eproms and flash the unibios
myself. But i need an eprom programmer. My jdm pic programmer seems able
to flash eeproms but not eproms.
Do you know some simple eprom programmer designs, which would be able
to flash a 27c1024, and can be built on a test board ? Or should i just buy it ?

Maybe one of the Willem ones? Those are DIY types... although many people sell burners based off of 'em on eBay. Not sure if they'll do 16-bit EPROMs.

I do know the TOP2004 and other related cheapie Chinese burners won't. I have one - it works great, but doesn't do the 16-bit EPROMs.

I haven't put any on my website yet, but I do have 40 of those EPROMs here.

I looked into buying a 27c1024 programmer as I need about 10 uniBIOS chips. I couldn't find one that guaranteed it would flash those chips what was a reasonable price.

I would suggest you buy them from Raz - the price is very fair, and even moreso when you consider the cost or the programmer plus chips.

I would be interested to hear if anyone has found a programme for cheap tho.

dont forget you also need an eprom eraser as well.

Buy the Unibios of Raz, it comes super quick. I got mine in 4 days flat from Raz.

I have an EPRom Burner that is compatable for sale....

But you need a PC with an ISA slot (The Longer Slot that are usually below the PCI slot)

All willem's will burn 16 bit chips with the adapter. The adapters are dirt cheap and I don't think you can beat the willem for compatability, cost and ease of use.

check out here www.sivava.com

I have the PCB3B/PCB3.5 and a 16 bit 40 pin/ 16 bit 42 pin adapters. Did I mention it's dirt cheap and will program nearly everything. Most professional programmers start at over $150 and cannot prgram as many chips, even with adapters(just more proof that open standards breed better functionality). Check out www.willem.org for more info, but when it comes to buying programmers and adapters, sivava.com is where it's at.

cheers,

Is the 16bit 40 pin adapter we would want the Adapter 27Cxxxx (16bit EPROM)?

Also, what do you use to erase the EPROM?

You use an eprom eraser of course!

If you don't have one of those, you can build 'em with a ballast and an ultraviolet germicidal lamp. JUST MAKE SURE IT IS TOTALLY ENCLOSED. You don't want a sunburn or eye damage from that lamp. The EPROMs should be about an inch from it to erase 'em... takes anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes depending on the lamp wattage.

Your eprom programmer will have a "blank test" function to tell you if they were fully erased.

Oh... and too much UV light will destroy an eprom so don't overcook 'em while erasing them.

Yes, for up to 4Mbit, any higher and you need the 42 pin adapter.
