Hey guys, I'm branching out. It's time to take the bold step from my AES to an actual arcade cabinet.

Of course I've thought about the MVS. And the Atomiswave is just financially unreachable. The Naomi seems pretty killer too. What's the way to go?

The only way to go is MVS. Get a cab with the most slots you can afford and with a 25" monitor.

MVS rocks as stated above, I like the 4-slots myself. But then there's also CPS2, F-3, G-Net, PGM, STV, M32...

I'd say check into a straight JAMMA cab with a horizontal monitor, or if you're going for a candy I'd say get one with a rotating monitor(most do). There are thousands of JAMMA titles and many of the systems above can be hooked right up to a JAMMA cab and played, some might need a harness for extra buttons(street fighter).

Thanks for the info. I'm on overload already. lol.

i need to google some informational sites to educate myself about this endeavor. i am unfamiliar with much of the terminology and application. at least now i have somewhat if an idea as to what i should gravitate toward. thank you for making this less of a nebulous exploration...

i'm pretty newb too but feel free to ask any of those questions you are googling to save you some time and headache. also i would recomend getting a candy cab cause they are so damn sexy. anyway if you do that you will be ablet to use anything thats jamma but multi slots are not jamma. so if you go that route you gain the ability to use atomiswave, cps2(suicide batteries suck), pgm(too small game library for me althogh SVG is looking sweet), naomi(with convertor) but you can only use a one slot. thats the route i just chose, you will also be able to play random pcpbs and if your monitor rotates you can get some shmups. anyway for me the multisltot would be better in the short run but after i have collected all the mvs titles i want i will be glad i have my candy. after ms6 comes out and teh price goes down a bit i'll be soooo glad i did not get a multislot.

Because everyone knows it's absolutely impossible to rewire a speaker and 2 noncritical buttons.

EDIT: And not everyone thinks Candy Cabs are "sexy." I think they look downright wimpy next to good ol' uprights.

^it looks cool, but defiently not sexy, there is a difference. anyway you could do alot worse than have one of those awsome cabs! realy cool looking. but the button layout seems a bit weird but i'm sure ounce you adapt to it its fine. it seems almost like the bastard child of a cocktail and an upright. because the angle of the monitor i mean. anyway nice cab.

I've got one of those aussie neo cabs, except mine is the 4 slot version with a bigger screen.

The button layout is what i grew up with so im pretty used to it. but the D button is in a crappy location imho, sometimes you miss where it is altogether.

If I may be so bold (and ignorant), may I ask what "jamma" is? Is that a type of board or a game? What is it compatible with?

Is there such a thing as getting something that would allow me to house an MVS board and switch it out with a Naomi board, Atomiswave, etc?

Thank you for bearing with me through my newfound education of home arcade solution...!

i'll do the best i can, but cannot give you the technical stuff as i do not have a clue about that. anyway my basic understanding is that it is a standard wirign system used on cabs. it was disigned so operators could switch out pcb's and not have to get all new cabs. so all pcbs that are jamma have the same input and output connectors and can play in the same cab. mvs and aw board are jamma i believe you need a converter for naomi. so a candy cab would alow you to switch out boards like you are saying. sense this is from one newbie to another maybe someone else can explain better, i actualy don't even have a cab yet.

its a giant ! takes up half of my spare room :loco: there are some things with the design & colour i dont like but if it wasn't for the big screen,i wouldn't have bought most of the pcbs i currently own

Thanks for all of the helpful information. I think that as of now I am looking at:

Astro City Cab (The newer version, sit down, 2 player)
NAOMI 2 MOBO
NAOMI GD ROM
CPII

And will I need some kind of converter for jamma?

Does this recipe for a home arcade sound like a good solution? I'm very interested in the titles for NAOMI, and especially in the processing capabilities.

Thanks.

^sadly i don't know anything about the naomi and can't realy help you at all. but i do know you will need and I/O convertor for the naomi to play in a jamma setup. if i were you i would check out this site and their forums for the info you are looking for on the naomi. if by cpII(sry i dont' know what this is so i could be wrong) you mean cpsII then you should know about the suicide batteries. i don't know any of the technical stuff but basicaly cpsII game boards(B boards) have a battery that will drain itself when the game is not in use and ounce that battery runs out the game board is useless untill the battery is replaced. i know you can get the boards modded to prevent this but i don't know by what means or by who this is done. i think that "recipe for a home arcade " sounds good. new astro city is a great cab, i think it suppors mid and low resolution and can be roated easily?

Dunno much about Naomi...but doesnt it need a hi-rez cab? If this is the case, then the astrocity (low/med) might not be your best choice? What cabs do you guys with Naomi's use to play on?
