Arcade Monitor Issues

Hello Techs,

I have this Dynamo SC-39 cabinet for reference. It was originaly outfitted for a CPS-2 system with XMvsSF.

I have had this picture problem for a little while now and I would like to resolve it. When I play any of my arcade mobos, pcbs(mvs, pgm igs, KI2, CPS2) the picture is absolutly perfect. Crisp lines and words, beautiful colors, everything is great.

When I play my Atomiswave system, is when the trouble begins. The monitors' picture looks like it is jumping up and down, about a milimeter each way really fast. It gives the picture a sort of out of focus look. When I turn the v-hold up on the monitor so the screen scrolls top to bottom slowly, I can see that the picture is just as clean as my other mobos, but when I set the v-hold, the problem comes back.

How do I fix this problem? Could the voltage be turned up too high? Where would I turn this down?

Thanks
AJ

Is the ATW outputting 15 or 31khz to the monitor? (Standard res or VGA?)

I have heard that not all monitors will work with ATW. You maybe experiencing symptoms that are applicable to the incompatibility issues.

Standard Res

I'm no expert, but it sounds like it's interlaced. When I had my Tekken 4 on a low res monitor, you could see every other line going up and down real fast. I don't know if Atomiswave does interlaced or not. Wish I could be of any help other than this.

Hmm...But why, then, do all other sytems look great on my monitor? And the Atomiswave looks perfect while the v-hold is scroling top to bottom really slowly. I gets jacked up when I fix the v-hold.

Not all low res singals go into interlaced mode. In fact, most do not unless they have a high res mode.... like the Atomiswave. that's my guess, and I'm sticking to it. Why does it look good when you're messing with V sync? No idea, but how good could it look while the screen is flipping?

Did a small search for you, and I bet that's it. Atomiswave IS interlaced in low res, where as CPS2, MVS, KI and PGM are not....

Just a head's up. Either you're VERY picky, or your monitor can't handle an interlaced singnal all that well. I tell you, Tekken in high res looks so much better than interlaced low, so maybe I'm picky, too.

Oh i know Im picky..I spend this money on this stuff I want the picture to look amazing. So, I have monitor that is progressive scan and not interlaced? Should I get a new monitor then? I was looking at the D9200 by Welles Gardner. You can see the specs here at HappControls.com website .

Would this allow a beautiful picture in low res for my older mobos and alow me to play the AW in hi-res mode?

I own that very monitor right now. It's amazing both in high and low. It's really amazing.

Interlaced is crap. I didn't mind it on my system 246 until I saw it high res. Jesus, I can't believe I put up with such a crappy picture for so long. Good luck with whatever happens. I don't think (but am not sure) you can turn interlace off on an AW.

Very Cool,

Where did you order yours from? Did you get a better deal on it than what Happ is offering? Did you install it yourself? Is it difficult to install?

Thanks

First of all, I LOVE IT. I bought mine from happ, just because I live so close to there and I picked it up. I saw it cheaper elsewhere, but by the time you add shipping? Forget it.

It's easy to install if you're using just VGA. You plug in the power (easy) from the power supply, and just use the VGA connection and you're done. I upgradded a 25 inch low res to this. I had to cut some wood to make it fit, but she's nice. If you read my last thread here, I was having vid problems with my Naomi kit... but that was because I ran both the standard signal AND VGA in at the same time. My advice is if you have no plans on using anything other than VGA, just use the VGA cable and be done with it. Amazing picture. I mean, really really nice as hell. Also, all the vid adjustments are on the seperate board like a computer monitor. I have another cab that is also high res, and that needs to move pots in orde to change the picture on the back of the tube, like many monitors do. This one's much easier and user friendly.

I didn't even know they made them still, to be honest. I'd like to get myself one more down the road.

I'm at work and I only have one pick on my site of it, but it's a far away picture. I can get you a close up of the screen if you want... when I get home. When I say I had to cut wood out, it was just the support of where the monitor rests on inside the cab itself. No biggie. I know you live SOMEwhat close to me... if you wanted, I would even help you install it on a free day if you'd like. LMK.

Spike,

You picked it up? Where is Happ..in Illinois? You use the vg cable for all mobo's? How does that work? The AW is the only mobo that I have that looks like it has VGA inputs. I'll let you know if I need your help, I proly will because I would get the 33" one(its the size of my arca. mon. now). I will def. lyk.

Thanks

AJ

No, the last two things I used were high res... and since my Marvel kit had a cow with both types of hookups, I took out the standard one and left in VGA. I would think you shoulnd't have any problems, and I ran Tekken 2, Tekken 4, and now MvsC2 on it. I have no plans on running ANYTHING low res on it, so that's why I took that route and just said the hell with the standard vidoe signal wires.

Where is happ... it's near the airport, if I'm not mistaken. Hell, I'm from Rockford. Everything's near the airport compared to me. It's right off of 90, that much I know... you can see the Happ building if you're driving into chicago on 90.
