I'm a great NeoGeo fan, don't know why I didn't register to this forum before. Owned a NeoGeoCD when I was young and parents didn't want to pay $200-500 for games. Now owning a AES, but going for the real deal soon. There are two MVS cabinets I'm going to check out this saturday and I'd like your opinions.

The one that's most likely to be my choice is the following:
http://cgi.ebay.nl/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8250519016&ssPageName=ADME:B:EF:NL:1
It has a 6 slot board, a lot of room for marquees and probably great sound. Only con is that it needs cleaning on the in- and outside.

The other one is a little more discrete. The cabinet itself just as expensive as the whole 6slot mvs, but the pro is that it accepts euro coins (in case I'd ever want to earn some money with it on Queens day). I can buy a 4 slot board with it including the carts of Metal Slug 1, 2 and 4 for 275 euro's, which makes the total 450 euros. BTW: it sais the size of the monitor is 25"

The second choise is an official european cabinet, but I think the first option is also an official version. Comments are very welcome!

I say I'd definitely pick the first over the second.

No love for candy cabs?

Hmm, i would say dont get either, but I dont live in Europe and Im not sure what designs you are used to, but I like the Candy cabs the best and the US big reds second. One thing, I have heard 6 slots are prone to failure much more than any other MVS board, can anyone out there back me up on this, or deny it? No matter what you decie, Neo cabs are great, I love my 4 slot Big red and Super Neo Candy 29. Good luck to yah.

For 199 euros that seem like a great price considering that's about what you would spend for just a 6-slot board alone. I don't really see what the seller means by "needs cleaning inside and out". Looks fine to me and probably just minor touch up/cleaning is needed. If I were in the Netherlands, I would have jumped on this :)

I'd go with the 6 slot. Don't get anything less than a 4 slot....you'll get tired of changing out carts all the time. That 6 slot looks nice. You might want to ask for pictures of the side art.

A Candy cab is nothing for me. I want to have the ol'skool wooden arcade cabinet in my living room.

These two cabinets are also not my dream of a stylized NeoGeo cabinet, but it's the best I can get at the moment. My absolute dream would be to own the cabinet on which I lost my NeoGeo virginity :make_fac: about 12 years ago, which is the SamSho II cab... check out how slick it is if it isn't burned in your retina yet:

I woulden't want to start kissing a$$ yet, but thank you already for the quick & usefull responce. Does anybody have bad experiences with 6 slot boards, like TravistyOJ says? Obviously Neo Ash hasn't and does have experience with 'm, so for the moment I don't suspect the 6 slot board to be prone to errors. The person selling this cabinet owns 3 of 'm, so I guess the boards weren't disappointing to him.

But I won't decide before I see both machines in RL. Saturday I'll be travelling trough the Netherlands by train and check 'm out.

Keep the comments coming plz: I'll check out my thread several times before then.

Oups, in the sig I see Neo Ash doesn't have a 6 slot board after all... is there anybody with good or bad experience who could say something about the matter?

The six slot failure issue is just an odds thing. The more slots on the board, more likely one will go out at some point in time. They don't have any more or less errors than any of the other boards. I'd also agree though, get at least a 4-slot unless you're consolizing.

I'd also go for a candy. I can't believe you don't like them? I'd probably sell my big red 4-slot for a candy any day. Either way though, owning a neo cab of any kind is great. You'll love whichever you decide on.

I've actualy never seen that second design. The first one is definitely a dedicated cab. But that second one just looks... ugly.

I own two 6-slot dedicated cabinets and they were used heavily on a daily basis for over 12 years. Neither of them had any board problems so far. I think what you might be referring to is the slots/connectors breaking from removing/inserting carts constantly. If that's your concern, then that can be fixed pretty easily.

Yes the dedicated SS2 is really nice but they are pretty hard to come by. I searched for one pretty much as soon as they came out. I didn't see one up until about two years ago. I finally found one for sale and purchased it about 6 months ago. The problem is that it's only a 1-slot so many of the operators didn't want to spend the full price for a cabinet when they could have the cart for $400 to $500.

Definately go for the first one, its an original mvs electrocoin arcade cab the other is a fugly conversion job.

I would tend to agree, there are a couple of points worth mentioning though.

1. As they draw relatively high current (nominally 4.5-5 amps) the 5 volt connectors on the mvs/jamma socket get toasty.

2. Because the boards are huge there tends to be some flexing, especially when inserting carts which may result in broken traces. So just be carefull.

I have two six slots which havent missed a beat in over 5 years, thats after I fixed the toasty 5 volt connection problem.

Also with the NiCd being on the bottom board, its not noticably/obvious if the battery is leaky. If you get a MVH6 with the original battery fitted- replace it straight away. You dont want this to happen :oh_no:

The Candy cabs definitely look plastic to me, which gives a puny impression in my eyes. I guess it's just a matter of taste. But show me your redcab and maybe we can settlle a deal... :) (maybe not... shippings costs)

I do agree on that option 2 doesn't look like it's supposed to. I could renovate it and make the sides red with some nice logo's on it. But as I got pictures of the cab itself, I see the buttonboard is worn off (check out the second picture).

It seems the first option is in favour of the general opinion (and mine as well). Expecially if the side looks like this one I don't think there will be any hesitation. Hope the board won't toast, as ttooddddyy explained. Those connections look as if they've gone trough mvs hell and back. I don't have much soldering experience, so I hope it won't be that much trouble fixing problems like that. What did it take to fix the 5v connection problem, ttooddddyy?

I have a side question as I'm obviously a newbie to the MVS scene. What is the difference between a marquee and a mini marquee? Is mini marquee the shine trough-version, which is smaller then the paper version, which would be the marquee?

A marquee is the large one that would go acorss the top of the can such as in you sam show cab picture. The mini marquee are the little ones that go into the 6 slots on the first cab you posted.

wrapped 2.5 or 3mm solder wick (desoldering braid) and soldered to each side of the board.
It seems to work well
