OK so not a neogeo issue (would have been better in arcade central I guess) but I want to get this going to accompany my AF 2 & 3.

I have an AF board that shows SPRITES#2 "No Good" at the memory test, then plays with gfx glitches on the sprites (suprise suprise)

Anyone know the location of the gfx "sprite 2" ROM ?

Here are all the graphics ROMs:

538a54.124
1538a54.124 (might be 538a54.124...MAME filename may be wrong?)
538a53.u9
534g8f.u18

OK thanks, I wasnt sure. Any idea of location

I don't know. My Aero Fighters pcb don't works so I can't perform any test.
You should join ground pin with previous pin in a ram chip and turn on the game. While it boots the screen test will shows the ic that you "makes" defective. Do this for all ram chips and you will get info about faulty chip/s (work ram chips makes the game don't boot I think).

Thanks for the help guys.
I guess if it is RAM it will be next to the one that causes Sprite#1 error when the data is shorted to ground.
Will give it a shot this evening.

Not able to identify any faulty ram at this stage, but for future reference I did find this, in order of the test sequence.

work ram 1=U112/U150 (6116)
work ram 2=U112/U150 (6116)
background 1=U11/U12 (3664)
background 2=U11/U12 (3664)
sprite map 1=U16/U17 (2464)
sprite map 2=U54/U55 (2464)
sprite 1= unknown ?
sprite 2=the offender unknown ?
raster ram=U41/U40 (6116)
pallet bg 1=U316/U317 (6116)
pallet bg 2=U316/U317 (6116)
pallet sprite 1=U316/317 (6116)
pallet sprite 2=U316/317 (6116)
program rom area = ?

Not listed in the test, is sound U172 (6116)

Coincidentally the audio processing on these is like mvs with YM2610-Z80 and YM3016dac.

I am starting to think this may be rom related, there are also a bunch of custom ICs and PALs, so it may get a bit tricky :spock:

Sorry... I was sure of that... but may be is rom related (according to mame driver 538a53.u9=gfx2, btw)

I will save this.

I will try that next

edit: unfortunately nothing is socketed. Also 538a53.u9 is difficult for me to ID (there is no u9 on the board)

Fortunately there is another faulty board with possibly good gfx roms, so it may be a case of hit or miss substitution here.

Upate- dont know why really

Replaced 2 of 4 of what I can see as gfx/sprite related roms located around the ram that affects the sprites according to the start up test, no joy as yet.

The trouble is that the solder station is down, its hard work with solder wick without damaging the boards :oh_no:

Thanks for that segundosombra.

I was concentrating on the roms on the bottom left of your picture, they are also involved with the gfx afaik.

Will try the IT-19-02 you outlined next.
