Swapping the rom chips from the MVS boards to an AES board.

There is a lot more than that involved.

I know but I'm not the person to tell someone everything on how to do something when I don't know myself.
I was just saying what i've heard so many times before.

Not always a bad thing. I brought 4 Fatal Fury 3, 1 Samurai 3 & 7 Samurai 2 MVS carts into this world as a result of my conversions.

The thing is, without taking the shell off, you can't even tell they used to be AES carts :make_fac:

Personally if there is nothing gone to waste, then I don't see the problem with it. Besides, if you keep all the original boards it's easy to restore them.

and then impossible to sell them

no-one wants to buy resoldered games as a result of someones experiments in making rare conversions to make money off

:shame:

1. All my conversions were for my personal collection.

2. When I went MVS I decided to sell off all my AES carts and didn't make profit on ANY of them.

I second that. (or third that, or whatever)

Doesn't stop people from selling them though......

Well I don't really understand the above comments - a few months back there were loads of conversions on ebay uk - mainly Kizuna, Slug1 and Puzzle Bobble - they were all selling, and all for a profit over the cost of the materials.

p.s. for the record I don't own any converted carts.

As long as there is the demand, they will sell.

When I sold all my conversions, I didn't make any profit on them at all. Actually I sold them all at a loss. Not everyone is into the dark arts for the money.

Same here. When I got into MVS, I sold all of my AES carts and conversions. I ended up selling all of the conversions at a loss. It cost me about $110 to make Waku Waku 7, and I sold it for something like $90. Ninja masters cost me about $75 to make and I sold it for $50 or thereabouts. I had no intention of making profit on the conversions, I just wanted to play those games without spending a small fortune.

Reason I ask is because I am getting scared that one day I am gonna demolish my P-1 and cant play my MOTW anymore, I also have 2 Fatal Fury carts so I dont mind hacking one especially since one has no sticker. Can anyone point me to where there is a tutorial on how to do this?

Those that know don't really approve, so there's never been a "Beginner's Guide to Converting Carts" that I've seen. One thing I can say is that I'm pretty sure you can't use a Fatal Fury board for such a big game. I don't pretend to know the details, but I do know that Fatal Fury 3 is an important tool in making conversions - it's the most common game that can do the larger cards. But once you get to protected games you may need KOF'99. I dunno. Some games need you to destroy two carts, Like !Arcade!'s run of Strikers 1945+ ...

Fatal Fury can't be used in a conversion.

The 3 most common 'sac' carts are FF3, SS2 & SS3. Although Kof96 & RBFF use the same boards as FF3 & SS3, they are less commonly used as they are not so cheap.

Most encrypted carts can be done with a Sengoku 3, else you have to use a KoF99 AND another cart.

MOTW isn't really economically viable to convert.

Also, Metal Slug 3 is impossible to do as it uses a unique board set. The only reason to convert one would be if a MS3 AES had a corrupted ROM on it.

Something I've always wondered about is the way people talk about "losing" a cart in the process. Theoretically, if you had a conversion that only needed 1 AES and 1 MVS cart, couldn't you just put the old AES roms onto the MVS boards and still end up with two working carts?

Is there something different about the AES roms that make them unusable on the MVS boards?
