Hidden NEO gamers...

Does anyone read the Q&A on PSX.IGN.com? The guy there (Dr. David Smith) seems to be a big closet NEO fan. Yesterday, his closing words were:

Let he who has wisdom grasp its meaning.

Followed by a picture of the MVS cart label for MOTW. He also talks about MOTW alot, but kinda in a way that most people would miss.

In a few earlier cols, he said he went home for X-mas, then to Seattle to play NEO and get snowed on, and that "Mark of the Wolves is funky dope"

The ODCM guys are always saying something about the NEO, wether that they want old NEO games on the DC, or that they remembered when they spent hours playing FF and AoF.

I always see thing like this wherever I go. Are there that many closet NEO lovers? None ever talk of owning a NEO, or anything, but they admit to playing it. Is it because they are afraid of 3-D gamer rididcule? Is the 2-d gamer shunned so?

damn straight, thats the shit im talking about. they all like the neo and they know it . its A shame that they cant fes up to it becuase it has become less"mainstreem" or less lucrative. shit, ECM and the boys at game fan were the only ones who would faithfolly back the neo and its games to this day(who could forget ecm's 2-3 page reviews of each metal slug title)they were the best gaming mag there was and now tere gone and the world is A grimmer place for it. the only other mag that I can give props to for supporting snk is ODCM.nuff said!

THat's an interesting theory. I think a lot of video game writers are conciously [or quite possibly unconciously] shunning a system that they (as supposed experts) know still enjoys popularity (especially in the arcades) and in many cases a system they still play.

Does that hold water to what you had in mind?

It's just to bad what happened with Gamefan, that was a personal fave of mine.

I've been out of the gaming magazine scene for a while. Gamefan's done? When did this happen and why?

Better that GameFan should rest in SNKHELL, as Neo Geo Heaven was an unlisted club on Yahoo! that dion and chris ran (they were also the only two people that they could ever directly state were members, despite the fact that dion said they had hundreds).

Also, yes, there does seem to be a bit of a stigma associated with being a 2D gamer (I went to a LAN party to play a bit of StarCraft, and got into a discussion with a mindless zealot wearing a 3DFX hat, and I made the statement that, "Just because a game is in 3D does not mean it is good."

He stared blankly for a moment, drool running out of the corner of his mouth, before replying, "YES IT DOES!"

They complain that our children are not properly educated in schools. This may be true. But when they will say DeathTrap Dungeon is a great game simply because it is in 3D, this country is in real trouble.

I still have my GameFan with the MOTW review. So many screen shots..... I still have not played this game. I can't afford it, and no arcade has it. I cry myself to sleep every night.

I feel your pain, dude.. I made the very stupid mistake of not picking this up when I first heard of it. I thought it would be just another Fatal Fury. Sounds like I am wrong.

I meted out revenge upon that 3D zealot the next week, when I brought along my Neo console and Metal Slug 3, and every one was having a blast playing it, and he wanted a turn. I just had to smirk.
