Well, it was a long time in the making. I wanted a nice cab to play all the fantastic Saturn shmups on, so this is my creation:

The cab itself is pretty striaght forward. I want to make some Saturn mini marquees for my favorite games and put them in instead of the Neo ones. I'd also like to make a new card to put in the area above the buttons.

I added the lower row of buttons. I color coded them to be layed out like the Saturn pad. The pink buttons are A, B, C. The green buttons are X, Y, Z. The blue buttons are the left and right shoulder buttons.

I mounted the JAMMA fingerboard, an aux harness for the extra buttons, the hacked pads, and an audio amp in the white box under the Saturn to have a clean appearance. It works great and looks fantastic. Also, I plugged it into the cab's PSU so all I need to do is flip the cabs power on, and everything powers on. I'm enjoying it quite a bit!

Nice setup loopyeddie. Where did you get the white project box? I'll be doing a similar setup only using a dreamcast.

Wow. I didn't think so many people would be interested in this. Here are some more pics. I made the case that everything is mounted in. I only spent about 10 minutes on it, as it is going in the machine and won't be visible. I added the region switch to the Saturn so I can play US and Japanese. I also added a headphone jack to the back that is connected to the reset button. That way I can just easily unplug it and have a normal Saturn. No other mods were done the the Saturn itself. The RGB is taken from a standard Saturn SCART cable. Audio also. The amp is just a little kit amplifier. Then it is all connected to a JAMMA fingerboard and home made kick harness. The video quality is really good. It is hard to take a pic of the screen in action, but you get the idea. This actually only took me about a day to set up. After playing this, I never want to play a Saturn out of a cab again! It seems like it was made to be in a cab. Here are the pics:

Any chance in getting a closer picture of the screen with no flash on the camera? I am really interested on seeing the bright screen in a game or if it's dulled down at all....or brighter etc...

it would be appreciated!

That is so amazingly cool man. You have no idea. My hat is off to you. I wish I had the technical know-how to just plop down and do something like that. I'd probably electrocute myself to death....

It really isn't that tough. You just have to consider the video, audio, and controls. Video is simple because through a SCART cable, you gan just tap RGB. Audio is pretty easy. Just take the audio outs and run them to an amp, then connect the amp outs to the JAMMA fingerboard. The controls are the hardest, but not too bad. Just take apart a controller and solder wires to the pads where the buttons connect, then solder the other end of the wires to the proper positions on the JAMMA fingerboard. Done.

Oh, and NGT, I'll get those pics, but not today. Sorry.

Excellent work loopyeddie. Mind telling us where you got the sound amp board? Also do you find yourself adjusting the monitor's brightness when swithcing between other PCB's and the Saturn?

Yeah, the Saturn is dimmer than a MVS board. I don't ever swap the boards out though, so it isn't a problem.

I had to adjust the screen settings a bit. I don't plan on taking the board out though, so I don't really care about the settings being different. I hope this cab likes the Saturn, because it will be in there for a long, long time!
