I was looking through an old EGM (I think it was from '94) and one of the Super Famicom previews featured a port of Sengoku. The info box said that it was 80% complete at that point. Did the finished product ever show up on retail shelves or was the project scrapped?

No. It made it to the SNES. But, based on the reviews I read, it didn't do too well.

What do you think it will get? It's a arcade game converted to the SNES.

So there was a US release for the SNES but no Japanese Super Fami release? That seems odd.

Given the time frame it was released in I would imagine it would have been a decent port (as good as the SNES could pull off). Sam Sho, Fatal Fury, FF2, FF Special, AOF, World Heroes, WH2, KOTM, and KOTM 2 all had good ports for the SNES (as good as was possible on the SNES hardware) so I would have expected similar results from Sengoku.

Who said it was a U.S release?

It was never released in the U.S for the SNES. Only in JPN.

People who never played the arcade/NEO GEO versions of the ported games will find no problems and enjoy it just fine, however, those who played in on the AES/Arcade first will bitch, pick, and moan like no tomorrow about the faults. Which are all pretty much true. But hey, it's the SNES.

Exactly, you said it came out on the SNES which would mean that it had a US release.

Anyway, back on topic, does anyone have this Super Fami cart? I'd like to know how it turned out.

I've become an avid SNK "Port" collector as of late, so I'd actually like to own this one (and I haven't found a working ROM of it yet :D ).

I played the "Sengoku Densyo" SFC ROM on my PS2 last week. Its a pretty poor port as you can imagine, but it is definately more playable than the other SNK ports on the SNES/SFC being that it is a beat-em-up, not a fighter.

dont forget about Super Baseball 2020 for the SNES. Best baseball game ever and i hate sports and sports games so that means something. the RPG element was awsome.

Come on Baz, you know that if someone says "Super Fami" or "Super Famicom" they're talking about the Japanese version of whatever they're talking about. I asked if the Sengoku port made it to the Super Fami and Senoir Whatshisface said it was only released on the SNES which would mean that it had a US release and not a JPN release.

really...............really people. :make_fac:

I have it, it's much more faithful to the NG version than the SFC port.
Without the 2 play simultaneous (or however that's spelled). How's the music?

Speak of the devil I just won a complete Super Fami Sengoku and a JPN Mega-CD version. I'm sure they're crap vs the AES/MVS version but I'm a fan of the original sengoku. =] If the thread's still alive when they arrive, I buzz in some opinions on both.

My brother has the SFC version and to be honest, it IS better than the Neo geo original, although that's not really a hard task to achieve. Not a common game on the SFC either.

Just out of curiousity, how much did they cost?
