How do I repair a broken cart? Probably a rom is bad.

Hello,

I've got a thrash rally cart which does work for 80%. The game runs well. But the sprites are a bit scrambled. I think a rom is bad or something. But how do I know it for sure and is this repairable?

thanks

If cleaning the cart didn't help then take it apart and clean it with the case off so you can see the crud on it better.

If that didn't help then (ONLY if you don't SUCK at soldering) resolder the pins on the roms...

If that didn't help then take the ROMs out and read 'em on an EPROM programmer and compare checksums against known ROM images.

Do you have a UniBIOS? If so, do the checksums come out ok?

I do have several boards but the problem stays. Why should I need a Uni Bios?

thanks

Because with it you can calculate the checksums and compare them to known values... without having to use an eprom programmer and ripping the roms off of the cartridge boards...

Thanks for the advice. It's better to buy an uni Bios rom. Much better then desolder the roms.
