So I have an extra PC power supply laying around. What do I need to do to hook it up to my Jamma connector to work with my 1 slot MV-1?

'Heya Big Bill...

It's kind of a waste.....

I'd recomend using a smaller psu.

Okay I don't have my PS handy so I'm not sure if its AT or AT-X. Either way I'm gonna sacrafise it :) I'm getting my consolized Neo up and going on a super low budget. So far this is what i've spent on the setup:

1 Slot MVS $15 (+$20 shipping)
Jamma Neo Harness $15
RGB Encoder chip FREE
Twin Arcade sticks FREE(Already had them build from a previous project)
Power Supply FREE (found in a computer by the dumpster @ my appt!)
4x MVS Carts $70 (Last Blade 1, Metal Slug 1, KOF97 and Samurai Showdown 3)

The only other costs i'm anticipating:
Parts for home-made RGB convertor (~$20 from radio schlack)
Speakers (I might be oober cheap and just wire up some old computer speakers)

Total project cost:
$120 (not too bad if ya ask me)

Back to the power supply stuff... How do I tell which line is ground and +5v and whatnot? Do i need to power it up and test w/ my multi tester? Also, what should I do with the power plugs comming off of it that I don't use? Is it ok to just snip them off and cap em?

Thanks for any help!

Is it AT or ATX?

If it's AT, just connect the +5V and +12V lines to the proper places on the board and use the power supply's switch. There's an AT pinout here: http://www.hardwarebook.net/connector/pc/motherboardpower.html

If it's ATX, you need to connect the +5V and +12V as with the AT and also wire a switch between pin 14 and a ground (13 and 15 are convenient) to use for a power switch (this is what I used). There's an ATX pinout here: http://xtronics.com/reference/atx_pinout.htm

Thank You..
As I have several of these computer power supplies lying around and never knew what/how to wire them up.
Though I'd rather just get rid of them all...
This info will help..

Those pinout diagrams I linked to should tell you everything you need but I'd recommend testing with the multimeter just to be sure. From my experience, the color coding & pins have matched the diagrams perfectly, though.

I used an ATX power supply for mine but wanted to keep it usable as a computer PS. To do that, I got an ATX power supply -> motherboard extension cable. That cable is about 6 inches long with one end that looks like the PS motherboard connector and the other end is a socket that connects to the PS. I cut off the end that looked like the PS connector and spliced the extension's connectors to the JAMMA harness. This way, I still have a fully functional ATX PS if I need it and a quick-release connection to the supergun. Of course if you don't need to keep the power supply intact, you can just cut / splice what you need and insulate the rest.

There's a picture of my whole rig here. It doesn't show the PS connection up close but it might help you visualize what I'm talking about.

That's why I used an ATX PS for mine ... I had one lying around and it was essentially free. It's worked really well for me.

Sweet setup man. Thanks for the info too. If you don't mind me asking, why do you have your supergun running through your genesis?

Thanks. :)

It's just a Genesis shell ... it was just the right size to hold everything I needed. The original power switch slider is functional (as the power switch) and the plan is to eventually get the original headphone jack, volume control, power led, and reset button working as well, and panel mount the power connection on the right side (where the EXT port was).
