High pitched tone coming from MVS

I think I saw a topic about this a long time ago, but I can't find it now, so...

Anyway, when I power up my 4-slot, I hear a weird high-pitched tone. Quite annoying, but not the end of the world. I'm fairly sure it's one of those things not everyone notices. It's definitely louder for some games and quieter for others.

I'm afraid I don't really know anything about the guts of my cab, but I was hoping someone could at least give me an idea as to why this is happening. Who knows, it might be a great way for me to get my hands dirty and learn something (I've always wanted to be able to handle the innards of this thing better).

It's these causing the high pitched noise..

Unplug them(cab off) from either the driver, back of the panels themselves or the mobo(from mobo is best)

Ah, the marquee lights! No wonder I couldn't find the old thread.

Anyway, thanks. I'll give it a try later today. Like I said, the tone isn't that bad, but I know I'll play more without it. :D

LMK how it turns out..

If you put in the replacement bulbs the noise will go away too(for future)

Well, it turns out you were exactly right, chris... Big surprise there. :D

But thanks again. I just took the light panels out, thinking that they're going to need to be replaced anyway. That, and I didn't want to take the cover off the mobo if I could help it.

Anyway, I do appreciate your help. It's nice to get a prompt and accurate response, instead of having 'noob' shouted in my face for once.

Oh, and while I have you here, is there anywhere in particular I should look to for replacement parts? How much can I expect this to cost? Just wondering.

Well, it's good to know there's an option available. Time to start squirelling some nickles for this one... Having unlit marquees just makes me feel like something's missing, though it is better than the noise.

Though I have to say... Maybe I'm nuts, but I swear I can still hear a really high pitched noise, much higher than before. Mind you, it's only when there's no other sound, like during a quiet game like Last Blade. I really have to listen for it, though. Definitely a huge improvement. Hell, it's so quiet I'm not even sure it's there. So I'll just forget about it. :D

Make sure to have unplugged the wire going to the mobo to the driver(lil box)..As the driver can stlll make a pitched noise..that way it's fully unhooked.

Otherwise what you may be hearing is the monitor..sometimes the flyback makes a high pitched noise.
Go around the back of the cab and listen if you can hear it near the back of the monitor.
I think it's calling "ringing flyback"..but I know there is a fix to it on the internet somewhere usuing a tooth pick or something.

I hear this same noise in my big red..It has to be totally quiet and I have to listen for it.

Needed to find a related thread..

Uhh...

As looking at spare parts(bulbs on these are all dead)..this is what I've put together for my Candy cab/project..
I'm stumped at to where the Red-Black Wire Molex End goes to..I always thought the wire coming from the driver/little pcb was a direct-only going to the MVS mobo..(unless when I got this wire with panles it wasn't the right one..(could be for cp/leds)
I figure this is a Power and Ground hook-up..?

What I have to do is open up the back of my Big Red or Neo Gol(I/m lazy :emb: ) and see where this goes as I've never noticed it before..

Hey, that 'Southtown Hero' rank obviously isn't just for show! :D

Maybe it is time I fooled around with my mobo to unplug that shit... And it's good to know I'm not crazy hearing noises. My roommates always think I'm hearing things, but goddamn it, they're there.

Nonetheless, like I said, this one's not too bad, and I'm fairly certain it isn't the monitor. Thank god, it's a big boy and otherwise in great shape; I'd hate to go to the trouble and expense of replacing it, though I suppose I'll have to one day, if I can still get one in what'll surely be the age of flat-panel TVs.

But good luck on the candy job. Seems like you're well equipped to tackle it to me, lazy or otherwise. :D
