So, I think I will purchase an AES sometime in the near future. I have a few questions (and am sure that many more will arise) and was just looking for some answers from some of the more experienced. Like:

Is it normal for the things that cover the screw holes on old style controllers to be missing?

Does the serial number really matter that much?

That's actually all I can think of for now...

The serial number only matters the most if you're going to mod it and such. And I also heard that later models have weak graphics or something?

I have 2 Japanese AES systems and the higher serial numbered one (which has the newer style controller) has poor picture quality to the lower numbered one.
The feet wear off from the bottom of the controller due to use, I just replaced the ones on the console and the controller.

Here's a link to help you

Seems like the only way you'll notice the difference is if you have a giant sized television/Wide screen, or play your games up close. And that only matters with RGB. You also need to buy a seperate RGB adapter, and make sure your tv has the neccesary plugs to use the RGB.

To experience real RGB from the neogeo chip out, you will need to mod the system. Otherwise you won't get true RGB.

I'm planning on sending it to get modded at a later time. So, does the serial # affect my plans?

Yeah but American tv's don't accept rgb input (so I understand, never actually been there!), that's why they have s-video mods instead. The aes outputs rgb without any mods but on later models the quality of the output poor compared to earlier models. That's why people bypass the video encoder chip to give unaltered rgb output.

There's a chart somewhere that tells you how serial numbers affect the quality of the different outputs. Try using the search function. Basically, I think the lower serial numbers have better rgb and poor composite and the later serial numbers have poor rgb and better composite, but I'm not sure how the serial numbers affect s-video. However, if you're going to get it modded, you might as well get component output (if your tv will accept that).
