I am about to take delivery of a batch of after market memory card readers, which can be used with both AES and MVS.
19006001.jpg

Faulty readers can be replaced on AES or MV-IC boards and those with 2-slot boards with no reader attached can finally get to save their games.

I need to know whether to request 1.27mm 0.05" pitch or 2.54mm 0.1" pitch.

The first person to tell me the correct answer will get a free reader shipped anywhere in the world.

I will be selling these readers on a regular basis once I know, which are the correct ones.

Have you wired up a proto.

The pitch on the PCMIA card socket is one thing, the pin out configuration to mount the socket to 1C or homebrew PCB is a different matter. From memory (no pun, I dont have a MV1C at hand) the pins are in 4 rows.

I think we talked about this before. Hard wire from the socket pins to a connector on the mobo sounds like hard work.

I look forward to trying it out :)

The reader pins are in 4 rows of 17, which is exactly the same as the SNK ones. I see no reason why it shouldn't work as it'll just fit right into the holes that are already there.

I take it you are planning to build PCBs to substitute the MV-1C

There are plenty of loose MV1,4 and 6 owners that would be interested.
Next step is to source some compatible low cost pcmia cards.

Wow that will be fantastic if it works out! Well done Joe :buttrock: The only reason I didn't buy a 4-slot was because it doesn't have a memory card reader and the seperate card reader boards seem to be as common as hen's teeth! If someone can figure out how to put together a memory card reader board using one of these my next project will be a consolised 4-slot :D

did you actually get it to work?

i spent countless hours with such a project myself, but gave up. the reader that i used to check the pinout was rusted, tho. took me a while to get it to work.

I shall have completed my proto by tomorrow evening I hope. I see no reason why it wont work as the MV-IC is a very simple PCB. My version won't look quite so nice, but it will get the job done.

Are you planning on just selling on the memory card readers and letting people make their own MV-IC copy or making the MV-IC copies yourself and selling those instead?

Both, just the readers for now though til I get the board design finalised.

Damn, I'd definitely be interested in a pair of those when the boards are done for my 4-slot.

(you need to do the credit LED boards, too!)

And here comes the beauty of the Neo-Geo being made of such simple hardware. If it used a more advanced processor and an I2C bus, we'd never be able to repro the accessory hardware like the credit LEDs and MV-IC.

I keep waiting for those pirates to make a Neo On A Chip. Then we'd all have access to an infinite supply of Neo motherboards. :)

Sir, I am in need of that part you show in the picture (Post #1). Please PM as to when I can purchase this from you. I've already got the old one removed from my 2 slot and it is just awaiting a new one.

i want to move both of those to another location

I thought the same thing. I ordered a reader from digikey, but the pins were staggered the wrong direction (even if flipped 180 degrees), and they did not line up with the holes on the board. The rows of pins were also too close together. The memory card fit just fine though. Too bad I can't use it.

Correct pitch is 2.54mm, not 1.27mm.

By pitch are we talking distance between pins left to right, in which case its 34 x 1.27 = 42 mm

PC_Card_Connector_Physical_Dimensions.gif

or are we talking top row to bottom row dimension ?

I stand corrected, I was measuring the distance between the PCB holes of each row but I forgot to divide that by 2 since thre 4 soldering rows become 2 where the card plugs.

Quick update folks. I'm still waiting on the delivery of these as they were out of stock when I ordered. Soon as I get them in, I can start working.

So I had a delivery and they were the wrong size. Too big for the PCB. I've arranged for a delivery of another batch, which with some luck will be perfect. Once they get here I shall be a posting again. I had to wait so long as they were out of stock, then when I finally get them they aren't even the right ones ¬_¬. Anyway hopefully soon we'll all be able to save :)

Looking forward to hearing the result Joe. It's so annoying when things get put on back order!
