Need help to buy console..

Hi, I want to buy a neo-geo console but I know very little about them. Im pretty sure its the cartridge based AES that I want. I just want to be sure im buying the correct thing before I spend so much money

Ive been reading different things online and want to clarify a few things so I can actually go out and buy one of these.

1) Is it really ok to have a japanese console? I live in the UK and only speak english so do I want a euro console or a US console (which are harder to find for sale it seems).

3) Do I need anything to use these console, I mean does have my TV need to be capable of anything for this to work?

1. With a Japanese console you'll get red blood, but most of the text will be in Japanese, so unless you can read Japanese you won't have a clue what's going on. When people say Japanese consoles are 'better' it's because there is no censorship. This is nonsense. I think US consoles are 'better' because the text is in English and I can tell what is going on!

2. Yes these consoles are ok to buy. Buy that one because I'm the seller! With the unibios you won't need to worry about Japanese text or censorship or anything like that because you can set it up how you want. It'll improve your gaming experience with better video and better sound than an unmodded console. It is far superior to an unmodded console and should be just as valuble to a collector (unless he's an arse!) There really is no point buying an unmodded console when you can get a modded one. They are more expensive but that's because of the parts and all the work that goes into modding it.

3. You need a tv with a scart input, so it needs to be less than about 15 years old!

I would so get that. However, the only games I want to play on the AES as of now are SamSho II and FFSpecial. And I know they're not worth it just to get that AES system for.

Thats a pretty decent price for a fully boxed mega NeoGeo.

Yeah it's a pretty good price if you're a buyer, but not if you're the seller! I've seen these systems go for up to 250 quid but mine only went for 165. How annoying

Where else can I buy these things apart from ebay? I want one in real good condition. I think the english speaking ones sound better to me, im not really bothered about blood because im assuming thats exculsive to fighting games.

There's blood in more neo geo games than you think! Most games seem to have censorship somewhere or other and you'll soon get fed up with green / white blood! However, with the unibios you get english text AND red blood.

Some games also have added 'boobie bounce' in the uncensored version

Yeah a mega neogeo really is your best choice. You don't really get much compared to hacked ones, a lot of games have fixes too that the uni bios can sort out.

Sorry for the double post, I haven't got edit. Especialy if you live in the states. A lot of the later models are really poor for video output. If you get a one with an enhanced video chip you can get the best picture possible for a neo via s-video, equal to the earliest models.

japanese console sounds good!

It wont really matter what region you get if you have a uni-bios. If your in the states then your going to have to buy a transformer to convert the power with a japanese one. If you get a US one with the uni-bios and video set, you don't have to worry about anything. It really is recomended that much, it's worth getting.

Demon, which states are you talking about? In Europe? Or U.S?

I have a non modded japanese console and frankly it's fine, newer games seem to have a language select, and I don't need an adapter with my japanese power supply. THough, the unibios sure sound nice, can anyone confirm if it'd let me play as Geonitz in kof 96

Don't really need english text to play the NEO games, but get the UNI-BIOS as mentioned if it's that important.

torvalds is in the UK. It says so on his location. Don't confuse him with s-video. I'm sure a lot of noobs to neo geo buy consoles modded with s-video because they hear it's the best video output in the states and think it's the same here in the UK.
