Disconsidering swordfighting games, Art of Fighting 3.

It's just me, though - as you will see.

If I were rich it would be Metal Slug or Kizuna Encounter...Naw forget about it I'd breathed down a collectors neck and ruthlessly make him fork over his collection by any means necessary. yeah...that's what I would do. :D

Start with the older ones first, you will then appreciate the newer games more. I played all of the fatal fury games in order and it was cool as hell seeing how the series progressed. Real bout 2 was the most fun and Garou is the most visually/technically impressive. That's just a FYI.

Samurai Shodown 2 hands down... unless you don't want to count sword fighters, then KoF 98.

I think he meant to say Windjammers.
:spock:

Anyway, there are so many solid fighters out there for the Neo that it would be almost impossible to pick the absolute best. I'd have to say that KOF '98 is one of the best fighters, along with Real Bout 2, MOTW, and The Last Blade.

I was going to list World Heroes, but.....

Fatal Fury 3 is the one I like the most, but I'm not sure if it's the greatest yet. That probably won't make sense to anyone else.

It all depends on what you're looking for.
I would recommend starting from the end and working your way to the beginning.
KOF? I would recommend KOF 99 or 2003
Samsho? VSpecial or III
Real Bout? RB2 or Special
misc would be BREAKERS or FFSPECIAL(pretty slow paced by today's standards though)

I don't think you can really point at a single fighting game and say "This is the best fighting game on the Neo". There are too many good ones.

There are ways to narrow it down though: Do you play by yourself, or with friends. If you play with friends, do they have experience with SNK fighting games, or were they just raised on Capcom (SF2). I think you can see where this is going.

For straight-up SNK love, I kinda like KOF'01 the best, even though everyone rags on it. The graphics are different than all the other ones, but they aren't bad. You're able to adjust how many chars you use and how powerful they are a la MvC2. And, there's a ton of characters to choose from - I think KOF'01 may have the most playable characters of any legit KOF.

There is no greater feeling than letting a Capcom head bring his best fight in SvC and getting pwnt by Terry. Never gets old, either. Power dunk!

Thank you BB! I was going to say 2003 as well. I have fun with that, Garou, and for best price and goodness, 2002 is superfast, crisp and responsive in controls, and has a good roster and decent soundtrack. MotW is definetley awesome. Graphics, MUSIC, and gameplay, but not a huge roster.

And for nostalgia, SamSho1
